Hi Guys
Probably the Worlds greatest Polo resource

I may well be but generally I dont apply a heavy foot. Iv fitted the cold air tube too if thats suppossed to helpdavid burton wrote:I presume you're driving it with more throttle without even realising it?!
try an economical run and see what you get. the warm air might not help matters either.
Thats what I meant David, with the enclosed unit as I used to have it a few months ago I deffinately used to get more mileage opposed to now with the K&N. I might aswell take it off for a while, being a student is hard, id rather get the extra mileage for my journeys to uni and back.david burton wrote:it'll help but I don't think it'll be better than an enclosed unit. saying that, I'm not sure warm air actually increases consumption or not - cars are generally more efficient in the warmer months.
the only way to tell is to fit the other unit back on.
bear in mind that in the wetter days I also get about 10% less economy. and it's colder at the moment too.
that's a panel filter, whereas I thought the one in question is a 1.4 cone jobby? or am I wrong?Chris-85 wrote:Since I fitted mine my mpg has been increased from low 30's to low 40's thats sitting in traffic to and from work. I think in my case though the original filter was clogged.
Sorry am lost, whats a cone jobby?david burton wrote:that's a panel filter, whereas I thought the one in question is a 1.4 cone jobby? or am I wrong?Chris-85 wrote:Since I fitted mine my mpg has been increased from low 30's to low 40's thats sitting in traffic to and from work. ^^^ what he saidpoloecosse wrote:aye thats an induction cone filter. bolting straight to the throttle housing is not a good idea and leads to poor performance not improvement! by sitting straight on the top of the engine the filter just sucks in warm air. wat u want to do is get a bit pipe to fit or some samco hose and locate the filter behind one of the headlights or as far to the front as possible with the pipe running to the intake. by having this pipe the vaccum from the inlet manifold helps to accelerate the air up the pipe and into the engine, it also helps to supply a colder air charge. if you try this you may find your fuel consumption a bit better and your car picks up a bit better from bottom end.
you would think k&n would think of thisbloody cowboys!
Sounds good, might give this a try on the weekend. Otherwise im just going to take the damn thing off for a while and put it back on after iv had my service. Another question, any idea how much the service should cost from VW?Its the which ever comes first type, either 25k or the date in the log book. I agree,il get the rocker cover back out the attic and stick it back, back to standard.forget the K&N, it just sounds good thats all.M7 wrote:never seen the point in these? that 2bhp extra really makes the difference on the motorways when overtaking the 3 litre bmw's![]()
better fuel consumption anyday!
