Hi everyone!
My first post! I have just brought this 1.0 1992 VW Polo Fox CL Coupe, Its got an MOT until Jun 2008 and 38,000 Genuine miles, with all the MOTs to back it from 1995 onwards! Also has the orginal Bill of Sale for £6700! and service history
So I have some questions!
1) I paid £450 do you think that is a good price?
2) I need this car as a reliable run around for 12 months, do you think it will give me any trouble?
3) If I put 10K miles onto it, what do you think I could sell it for in 12months time?
4) Is anything likely to go wrong or are these reliable?
5) This is my first VW what are the engines like? (strong, reliable), Whats the suspension like? And how prone are they to rust?
6) What do you think??
Andvice on ownershipo and opinions very welcome!
Thanks

What ! YEah that is a bargin . I baught my 1.0 fox COupe around 2 years ago with almost twice that mileage for the same price .
Like any car if you dont treat it right your going to get rust . Give it a lick of underseal if you have the time . Copper paint the brakelines . Take the panels out the doors inside and wax coat the interior of the panels . Look out for the bottom of the doors as there is like a non existamt seal so they tend to rust .. With water runnin down inside the doors that is .
It shouldnt give you too much trouble .. I think the only thing that has broken on mine is the distributor Cap and Rotar arm that was at like 120K though . Iff you keep the wheel size standard then you should be all good for wheel bearings.
These engines are strong . I have tuned mine with a 1.8Carb and Inj system forced ventilation kit . Sports exhaust.. Chip .. It is running perfectly fine with the boost in BHP .
Shocks are real cheap at a place called GSF (German Sweedish Fench Car Parts ) You can get some German VW copies that are a little better and would quite easily last for the year iff your origional shocks are worse for wear . Nice smooth ride too .. Iff your not going to lower it .
Iff you go to VW and get some trim from a G40 just the black wheel arches and skirts then i imagine you could get £500-£600 for it as it will make the car look much smarter . Could get a cheap set of BBS form a scrappy for around £100 i imagine too if you look around .. Your car would look alot neater then and you will make money from the relativly cheap modifications .. OH and you will be much more inclined to jump into your little polo .
have fun for a year in your little polo you never know ul might be keeping it in a years time ! Get bitten by the bugg .. There nice little cars when you do a few bits and pieces .. Can be real head turners too.

Why paint the insides of the doors

most damage would come from stonechips on the outside on white paintwork!
Just adding some Gt/G40 kit isn't going to dramically increase the resale price, infact unless they know their stuff about polos your average buyer would probably think they're standard!

It does smarten the car up though to be honest .. The average Jo will confuse it for a Golf ...
Thats with the BBS of course .
