Clutch Problems?

hello, just joined your forum 
i just need a few pointers relating to my 98 VW Polo 1.4L
When the car is running but stationary, i go to depress the clutch pedel and the engine just compleaty stalls.
This problem has kind of got worse itself as before the revs just used to drop a little, now it just stalls straight away
i am totaly confused on what to do as it never used to have this problem when i bought it back in april, but the car has not moved from where it was first parked as it has not got its MOT yet as i am waiting for a few parts to come through to help it pass.
can anyone please point me in the right direction?
