Lowering

I want to lower my polo a bit, but i am not really sure whats what.
could any one explain the components of the suspension?

Also what would be the best way to lower it? I only want to lower it 40mm to start with and i dont want to spend loads of money. I was thinking of just buying some spax 40mm lowering springs.

Id love to know peoples opinions on this.

Thanks.

i remember talking to someone and he told me to stay away from the cheap stuff and supposedly SPAX springs have also broken on some people. Just try and find some decent eibach springs which lower 40mm all the way around, should be able to pick them up for about 80-90ish i reckon.

Hope that helps,

Haris

Will 40mm make a lot of difference handling wise?

i dropped mine 40mm on springs that i got from dee-vub

never replaced the shocks though, car was a bit bouncy at times with just the springs

get upgraded shocks and springs will definitely be worth it in the end

I'd agree with that - I got springs and shocks 2nd hand (thanks max!)

Makes such a difference to the handling, I've got my bf's golf gti for a couple of days and it feels really sketchy round corners in comparison!!

you will eventually f**k your shocks, fail MOT aswell, they will eventually break the seal and p*** out fluid everywhere

there is so much i want to do to my car but really dont know if its worth it.
its not like its a performance car.

really wish i had a gti or something. atleast then i would feel its worth it.
I am getting a bit frustrated with the 1.4 at the moment after driving a faster car for a year ( keep hitting the limiter in my polo - only when overtaking lol not all the time.)

how much are some decent shocks then?

you can get spring and shock kits for around 140 quid new. These will go down either 40/40 60/40 or 80/60mm. On standard shocks you can lower it by 30/35/40/50mm, but is advised lowering it on standard shocks

Is there any thing else i need to worry about if i get it lowered, can it effect the tracking on the front wheels or any thing?

i have seen some boy racer cars that have been lowered and they snake - not sure if thats any thing to do with lowering but some one said to me it was.

Cheers.

yes your tracking will go out, will need to get it re-aligned, doubt you will get any scrubbage at that height, 40mm that is,

Have a look at the kits PhilJ sells on clubpolo in the jakson tuning section, you can have a look at the prices of both springs and shocks, and the dropage you will get from them and if your willing to stretch a bit definately go for the coilies. (btw i have the 60-40/60 kit that PhilJ sells, so if you have any questions just ask me)

Just had a look at your sig pic properly and realised your car looks exactly like mine atm front end wise lol
