not much you can do really.

Unless you wanna get the panel resprayed. Though if its cracked its probably due to rust and it can be sotred DIY style.

Lets see what others say first cause im in a rush and am no expert anyways!

looks to me like a poor re-spray job, I am no expert though.
But the original paint shouldnt crack like that.

did you get any history with the car? or do you know if it has been sprayed?

if you planning on getting the panel resprayed then you might aswell try a home repair first if it looks s**t then you can take it to a bodyshop. but it will cost you and arm and a leg to get one panel sprayed especally in chegall blue.

i wanted my bonet redon and they quoted me £250+ depending on if they got a perfect match or not as apparently theres a 1 in 4 chance of a match in that colour.

anyways for a diy repair as it looks like its just the clearcoat it may be a simple repair.

you need 1200 or 1500 grit wet and dry paper.
and some form of abrasive compound i think its G3 ( its by the paint and wet and dry in halfords in a yellow tin)
meguiars scratch-x or similar i would use menzerna compound
high quality car polish
high quality car wax.

useing 1200 or1500 grit paper wet either with water or white spirit sand down with eaven pressure the cracked paint rinsng the work area and the paper often.
once you get a uniform texture and look (ie all the cracking is gone and you just have a scratched car move to the g3 compound on a clean cotten cloth workig in small circles till the compount is worked into the paint, once the scratches turn to really fine swirls you are ready to use the scratchx and the polish and wax.

note after you have done the sanding make sure you rince teh area well before moving to the compound and rince the area well before the scratchx.

its a couple of hours work but i think it will work.

also note the paint is thinner round the edges so pay more attention to them

Just make sure you dont go get the paint from halfords!!
find your paint code and get the paint from a VW dealer.

I was just thinking why would that pannel be resprayed? and the thought that maybe your car could have been in a crash? perhaps...
maybe not just a thought.

well you could get a HPI check, but this does cost.
http://www.hpicheck.com
or
if you know a mehcanic get them to look it over and see if they can see any signs of a crash.
