How do i take the steering wheel off My 2000 polo GTI! Help!

Hello all please can someone shed some light on my problem, i need to change my ignition switch on my polo and i cannot find a way to get the steering wheel off due to the air bag,
Does anyone know how to do this??

I think you need to take your airbag off first, and there should be a bolt underneath.

Cheers mate,
Just tried to get this off there are 2 holes underneath but but there seemed not to be any bolts and when i look inside with a tourch all i can see is 2 springs??
any ideas?

First of all make sure that the battery is disconnected so the airbag doesn't go poomph in your face. If you get a Haynes manual, it'll tell you exactly how to do it. On other cars that I've done this on, there was just 1 bolt right in the middle.

1. Disconnect the negative on the battery
2. Straighten your wheels!
3. behind the steering wheel (on the back of it) on each side there is a hole, put a flat blade screwdriver in there and turn it (to knock it off the runner, not to unscrew, this can be quite difficult it took me about 15mins).. once it has clipped off do the other side then it will just come off, then disconnect the airbag connecting wire....
4. once the airbag is off then you can gt to the main bolt to remove steering wheel
