how much is a new lambda sensor going to set me back and wheres the best place to get one from?

Depends which one
I replaced the one before the Cat on a 1.2S 12 valve
Cost Â£85 from a VW Spares shop. VW wanted Â£104 for same one

Most others are cheaper than this

Give: http://www.vagparts.com a call... they supply genuine parts at a hugely reduced price! I'm dealing with them at the moment and have nothing but praise for them...
