Hey guys, does anyone know where I can get another one of the number plate surrounds exactly like the one on the back of my car?



My front number plate is currently affixed using double sided sticky tape and as a result keeps coming off, so instead of fixing it with screws, which I don't want to do, I want to get another surround, but I don't want it to be one of the German style ones.

Any suggestions?

just go to the local vw dealer mate, they should have them i would have thought! hope that helps

Mine was stuck with double sided sticky tape and yes mine fell off too!

But... I stuck mine back on with souble sided tape again... But I used thick double sided tape used for sticking lino down in bathrooms... its waterproof and sticks like S*** to a blanket... its been on two years without drama now!



Just make sure all surfaces are clean and very dry.

Phoned one of my local dealers about this today, unfortunately they only do one with the name of that dealership on it. I wonder where I can get one that just says "Volkswagen UK"

The time I did re-stick it, i spent hours removing the old stuff and both surfaces were uber clean but the curvature of the bumper seems to be enough to make it come unstuck

Where can I get some of this really sticky double sided tape?

Halfords do specific sticky pads for sticking number plates to curved surfaces! not that expensive really either.

You might want to try getting in touch with VW UK head office, they might be able to help you out regarding the plate surround.

I'd be interested in a set of these to. Think an email to head office may be in order.

you will find you need tape with some depth to it - this takes up any imperfections, and bumps, and works a treat.

I use velcro. It had loads of give in it but is very strong. Not had a problem over the last year.

i used velcro from BnQ, it was a rip off at like 10pounds for 1M of it but it really does stick. i actually bent my german plate trying to remove it. lol

LOL you didn't buy the stuff in a packaged box did you?

B&Q do "off the reel" velcro - something like £1 a metre per side of velcro.

This is what am using at the moment with my german plates,I went for this after reading David's reply on a similar number plate thread.
Using velcro is handy because the plates can just be pulled off and replaced with the proper plates if you are unfortuanate enough to be pulled over by the police for illegal plates. (I keep my original ones in the boot)

I personally prefer heavy duty double sided tape though, this velcro stuff sticks out too much for my liking.

Halfords Trim Repair is think double sided tape, it does the job a treat!!

with my metal plates the face that the velcro sticks onto is actually further into the plate than the surrounding lip, so it takes up the extra space the velcro uses. my plates sit pretty flush!
