So lemme get this straight, you had a problem with the car and the garage you took it too replaced the engine?! sounds a bit drastic to me.
What engine do you have in your car and what engine did they put in it?
Sounds like there was nothing wrong with the oringal engine in the first place.
Did any one ever run any diagnostics software on your car?

yea, at first it was not starting when cold but running fine when warm, all he elctrics were changed and tht wasnt the problem including sensors, so they y thought sticky valves as cylinders were stiull misfiring according to vag com
so the engine was changed its an 8v 6n2 then the car was fine then after 3 days the problem arose again, again showing misfires on all cylinders and pointing to the coil pack which is new.
luckily its all under warranty so im not paying for any of it, which is the only relief ive got at the moment. im thinkin screw it all get a refund and go elsewhere to buy a polo and get a gti instead. i wanted the 8v to save petrol as i do so much driving my previous car was burnign a hell of a hole in my pocket.
