I dont want to look at the haynes book untill i have too... as i know it will ask me to do everything under the sun to make the warning light go..

but this Image

this red light has started to constantly stay on??? what is it? my first guess is its a airbag???

but what the easiest way to stop the red light from being on.... and i have thought about smashing it before anyone says that!! LOL

its the airbag light, which means your airbag is not working or something to do with that is not working properly. Its not exactly safe to be driving around with that light on as the airbag might malfunction and pop out whilst driving I cant believe youve been driving about with it on thinking nothing of it!

Take it to a garage or mobile mechanic be better (cheaper) I personally wouldnt leave it unfixed

its not your airbag light,,,thats yellow and flashes on your panel between your gagues,,maybe some kind of temp warning light. They are normally switches that its mounted onto.

is it not just the alarm LED thing?

if it was important it would be where the speedo would be i think :?

Are we looking at the same button? It has a picture of a man with an airbag infront of him yes? Hence me saying its an airbag issue. Its not on the later mk4s but its on mine. The latter mk4s dont even have that button instead they have it on the speedo, but its actually the same icon graphic only on the speedo, but for the older mk4s its a button instead.

"The airbag light comes on for about 3 seconds on ignition, if it does not go out there is a fault with the system.." it says in the manual just about (i couldnt be bothered writing it out word for word)

It checks the airbag is working everytime you put your key in it says and then it should go off, its probably just an electrical fault or something like that, but its a fault and in my view not a good one to be left as for one your airbag probably isnt working and for two might just explode, on the other hand its more likely just some minor electrical fault.

Can I just say again, a man pictured with an airbag infront of him is an airbag button and saying its not is just ridiculous! :)

mines be on since i got the car. never bothered me lol. but i bought mine as a right off and done her up so i guess it just means the airbag had dispersed.

Did yours just magically come on one day or has it always been on?

it wont just randomly go off,,,at worst it might fail in a crash but even thats unlikely.

yeah it prob just a bad connection somewhere. Could even be a dirty connection stoping the airbag being detected. I would get it checked out though mate as like said above that light basically means the car assumes either theres no airbag present or that it has already deploid. This may mean in the event of an accident it doesnt work.
