Central locking.....has died :(

Hey

I know many people have had this problem and I knew it was going to happen to me!

Basically went out in my car , got home and tried to lock it...and the central locking didn't work!
Weird thing is, the petrol flap was locked!? Surely is should have been unlocked like the rest of the car was.

Went to VW and they have quoted my £200 for a new pump. I'm sure I've heard of others ways to fix it.

Any help is much appreciated!!

You could get a used central locking pump from a scrappy? I was quoted about 40-45 quid for one.

yeah second hand pumps go for around £30-£40 on ebay or scrappies. What i did having gome thru two pumps is with my new pump, seal the pump with a sh!t load of duct tape, line the bit it sits in with a load of sponge so if any water gets it in should get abosrbed rather than just making a nice little pool for the pump, then going around my lights with sealant because there was like a 5mm gap! Its a bit amature / diy but it seems to have done the job. Although my dad somehow buggered up the alarm so now it only closes via central locking but wont open, which is very annoying because the petrol cap keeps locking shut and i have to dig out a screwdriver to open it again. VW central locking truly is rubbish

Hi,

Before spending money on a new pump you should take it out, open it to see the electric circuit plate and spray it with WD40 to make sure there's no moisture.

If you need to buy one, note that golf 3, vento, seat and some others also work with the Polo.

On ebay.de search for ZV Pumpe
