Funnily enough when some of you guys were saying in a previous thread that your ABS light had come on then gone off again you must have cursed my car - as mine was ok until you posted that
Been to the garage today and he has linked it up to the computer and it looks that at some point in the future I'm going to need a new ABS pump/unit - has anyone had this before, if so do they know the cost for replacement? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

new pump/unit eh? when my light came on, it turned out to be a rear ABS sensor so this got fixed under warranty and then a year later the light came on again and it turned out to be the other side rear ABS sensor! this wasn't fixed under warranty!

thanks for the help - I'll ask him to check that - but that wasn't what came up on the diagnostics software that he used - although i'm not sure if it would differentiate between the two

i would think that it would differentiate mate but you could always get him to check just to be on the safe side!

I had that, when they plugged it in and checked he said I need a new ABS Control unit.

It's somewhere between £500-£600 (the price I had included something else as well) from a VW specialist.

my ABS light is on constant aswel :S hope it aint gonna be that much aint had it looked at with the computer yet, just had it looked at by a mate in a garage to make sure my brakes are ok, which they are, so its gotta be either a sensor or that control unit

ran mine throught VAGcom and mine was the rear speed sensor so i have cleaned both sides and its all cool.

I rang him up last night to double check, and he said that it said "high reading" or something to that effect - so I'll probably get the sensors checked first - can anyone tell me how much new sensors are likely to cost - if it's going to be a lot cheaper, I'd obviously rather get those changed first just incase, before shelling out £600 (ish).

not sure on the price of the sensors but i cant be to much say £50 tops (please dont quote me on that tho its just a guess) to clean them just take the rear brakes off and they are behind the discs.

iirc, one of my sensors cost around £90 fitted!

I had mine replaced at 20 something quid each - ended up needing a new abs pump thou - that cost £750 all in

I tried fitting a 2nd hand pump first but you have to get a new gen part, this has to be programmed by VW to fit into your ecu - basically if you need one it seems they have you by the short and curly's

Can't be arsed to start a new thread on this issue, so iam jumping on the end of this one.

ABS light has been coming on & off abit over last week or so, can i clean the sensors without removing the discs

Have not got the tools required i.e. the one that pushes the caliper piston
back in.

Any advise

They sell the calliper rewind tool you want for about £12 from halfords....just get one... It will be really usefull for the next time you want to change your pads...

This site is 100% cursed. My ABS light was on when i had my MOT and it turned out to be the rear sensors.

I had them replaced and the light went off. Two weeks later its back on, although it turns on and off randomly.

Today i noticed that when i went over a speed bump, although slowly, there was a noise and the light came on?

If its ot one thing its another. I love my car but i cant afford to keep it.
