Polo pressure plate gearbox failure

I have 1999 Polo 1.9DCL. 6N1. Gearbox EQX.Thought gearbox failed. On dismantling found 3 lumps of alloy with spring steel had come off the Pressure plate.Resulted in hole between case and bell housing - oil leaking.
Gearbox appears OK, removed bits and appeared they were trapped in the change linkage inside gearbox stopping 1st gear entry.
Q? I intend to buy full clutch kit. However, cost of new half of gearbox is pricey. Anyone out there ever patched up holes in Alu gearboxes. If so how?
I have seen ads for HTS-2000, a miracle weld / braze repair for Aluminium. Do they work. Its a hole 1 inch dia.
