6N2 starting problems

Hello,
I have a 1.4 16v 6N2. Very occasionally when i go to start it the engine will turn over but wont actually fire. When it does it fires up for a few seconds before dying. To get it started i have to turn the key the engine will turn over for about 5 seconds before it fires i then have to rev it really hard (3000rpm) to keep it alive. After about 20 seconds it is good to go.
As you can imagine this is not ideal, like I said it is quite rare but still annoying none the less. Any ideas of what is wrong will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sam

hmm Try leaving the battery disconnected for an hour - it may be a throttle body related problem.

Well for me it isn't an electrical problem because it turns over fine. I am thinking it could be one of a few things such as the Temp sender or Lambda sensor, if they are dodgy then the car can think it is starting from cold and allow to much fuel to flood the engine. I have also very recently ha a cambelt change because of a broken tensioner and am wondering if that has anything to do with it.
Also wondering if its worth cleaning the throttle body cause the revs can be a bit up and down when idling.

is it really heavy on starting?

Yeah, normally when I start it it never seems very smooth, it always feels like it kicks in heavily.

sounds like camshaft position sensor, does it start ok once the car has being running a while? or is it just in the morning and when it has been stood?

Starting from cold has never been a problem, the only times it has happened is when I have been using the car, then turned it off for a short while, then started it when its still warm.
It only happens about once a week so if it was a cambelt problem then wouldnt it affect it all the time?

Mines only started doing it the in the last two weeks. Does yours suffer with an uneven idle?
I should be getting my fault codes read tomorrow, i'll let you know what the diagnosis is.
