how easy is it to fit the roof spoiler?

Much more easier than find one on sale

very easy

remove light

put light into votex spoiler and glue votex over current spoiler

Got a Mk7, same tailgate, I'm looking for the fitting instructions for the spoiler, basically the areas to be stuck down/sealed with the pu/mastic, does the diagram show that the vertical part of the tailgate should be sealed with the spoiler?

personally I can't see the spoiler ever coming off if you just glued the top flat edge. I don't think it really matters what you decide to glue down. HTH.

The reason I ask, if you don't seal the vertical part, water can get in when you wash the car or open the tailgate when its raining.

maybe that's why mine leaks after it's been washed

its leaking because it has not been sealed properly.you need to take the brake light out of the spoiler and seal where the wires come through the boot to the light.use sealer or silocone.leaving it might cause it to rust from the inside ,out .

I think it's just because it holds water in the holes underneath it, but I'll take a look anyway just in case. I'm sure the bodyshop have sealed it properly

Don't think that'll work, I think there will be a similar opening on the r/h side of the brake light which you can't get to seal, unlike the l/h side where there is a cutout in the spoiler to let the wiring through.

Looks like it will have to be sealed underneath for the whole length of the spoiler!

Also have my doubts that the light unit is a good seal on these.


I bought the car 2nd hand with the spoiler fitted, unfortunately it wasn't fitted by vw dealer, or it would have been covered by warranty! Bodyshop that done it is about 400 miles away.

if the seal in the new unit for the light is the same as what was on the original spoiler I'd be tempted to leave it. if water can drain then that's good enough, I don't see water flowing in there at any significant quantity if the top edge is sealed.

My boot has always held water in it somewhere when it's washed. if you seal the underneath you could end up with water gathering in the spoiler which could actually be worse.

That was my thoughts, hence the reason I was asking for a copy of the fitting instructions to see what areas are sealed.

after mine was fitted it leaked.done as i said in the previous and NO more water.i am not sealing the brake light or the spoiler again,just the actual boot lid itself.where the brake light wires come through the boot.

Sealing that area would be easy to do through the cutout in the spoiler for the brake wiring, but I still think there is a similar opening on the r/h, like to think there isn't and life would be easy.

If you had the fitting instructions, what did they show?
