Hi there, welcome to the forum!

This may sound silly, but your '99 car, is that still the Mk4, or the newer shaped Mk5?

If it's the Mk4, there were indeed two bumper types available. The 'two piece' model (found on all models except 16v) and the 'single piece' (or big bumper) version that the 16v had.

These are in fact interchangable. The Mk5 (GTI) bumper is not, however. Well not without substantial bodywork/trimming anyway. IIRC, the Mk5 has only one shape, but different inserts/grills to set the GTI apart from the rest of the range.

Hope that helps!

AFAIK, it's just the bumper skin that's different. The grill/plastic-bit-under-the-grill-that's-painted are identical.

According to ETKA, the spoiler lip is different too, but I'd imagine you could try your old one or fit a different one while you're at it.

Also, keep in mind that the '16v' bumper has grill inserts that probably don't come with the bumper skin itself.
