All big bore noises = cheap and nasty

The fact is every modded out car from corsas to saxos have big bore exhausts on making them sound loud, the problem is since they have become mainstream they are now the sound of an approaching "cheap and nasty" car. You may think it sounds great, but the sound is actually the sound of "I want to show off and attract attention to my cheap car".

To me and probably many others the approaching loud noise is always a modded car that looks chavved up and sounds awful. I have never seen a good one because quite frankly there arent any.

The only cars that are suppose to sound good are real cars like aston martins and GTC continentals, not a small car someone aged 18 to whatever has bought and decided to cheaply do up.

Im sick and tired of the loud noises I here everyday with some dark tinted wreck of a car worth £500. The worse ones are without doubt the corsas with the massive wheels that look absolutely awful, yet the owner thinks they look good.

Im sorry but although once bore exhausts were good, maybe when people used to put them on their minis. Today they mean only one thing, cheap tat and no matter how great you have done up your car the louder it is the more cheap and tatty it now sounds.

You should remember what the point in these loud noises was. To sound more powerful....

They dont sound powerful, they sound cheap and tacky because of the cars that now use them. The sooner people realise that, the sooner the people who have any sense will mod their cars without putting on a noise that will not be telling people "hey this car has power look at me" it tells people "oh look another cheap and scruffy car"

So think again! And remember when your driving along with your cheap noise, people are actually thinking "how annoying and why advertise the fact you have a inexpensive, chavved up car"

For those of you with any sense or even design sense get a normal exhaust, you must acknowlegde it makes you a laughing stock amongst everyone you are trying to impress!

 damn that was forward of you. but true i must admit.....

this is the reason why we see saxos and chav corsas for sale all the time.
they buy the car, spend their dole money at halfords on dodgy wheels, exhaust tips, audio etc instead of the engine and making the car run better in general. they just havent got a clue!

 You'll hate me but i'm afraid my old Polo had a 4" jap style backbox. Was really loud but thats not why I had it. It worked really well with the air sucking noise from induction kit and thats the only reason I kept it. back then I never heard of uk-polos till someone left sticky on my car (must'v liked the chav look n want me to ruin the clubs rep)

Anyway, thanks to the forum and going VAG meets I realised the difference between Classy and utter bog-job tat. So i'm quite thankful I had that experience. THE BACKBOX IS ON SALE (LINK BELOW!)

Thankfully now I just want 1 or 2 3" boxes with 4-2-1 manifold and a de-cat. Rather for real performance and a engine note that leaves a smile on your face :D

Glad you got rid of the bottled aggression on mahoosivly loud backboxes, almost see the steam from my laptop

lol chill man! Fair play they're not to your taste, they're not to mine either, but respect peoples views! If it makes them happy then so what? Alot of people think im stupid for even touching my car, but modding it makes me happy, I don't do it to impress or draw attention or particularly care what anyone else thinks, so long as its how I like it. You gotta remeber not everyone is a car designer or a mechanic, if you're 18 and MAX power is your inspriation then who's to say its not cool?

True, I read max power like a bible for 4yrs before even had a car! My cousins car won best of show 4 times, lambo doors, hydraulics, V6 nitroused, 1 off body, 20"rims, 2 10" exhausts not to mention the fully custom interior. Even if i'm not into ever wishing my car was modded like that I still think his cars pretty sweet (must be if its been on the cover of Max Power and Gti mag in France)

So guess it depends on what appeals to you and there's plenty of modding styles these days ie- US, UK, Jap, Euro, JDM to name a few. Guess all of us falled in the Euro look.

Anyway thats actually a ghastly picture of my other half; the bumpers cracked and the bonnets riddled with stone chips!!!! Yeh she's mine (the gal that is  )

This is rubbish,,,,i think theres nothing cooler than a really subtle modified car with a nice soundind exhaust,,especially if its running a 1.8t or some other conversion in which case its gonna struggle to be quiet isnt it???

Exactly - ive got a nice subtle one on the ways shortly and its by no means loud and noisy. It just purrs and adds that finishing touch to the car. My car wont become some chav machine, or some heap of crap which people will think omg its so loud and noisy it must be driven by a chav with no sense about car modding

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and yes most chav cars have big booming exhausts - thats true. But an exhaust can be added and work very well depending on the car and how its done.

back then I put the exhaust on for 'looks n sounds', whereas i'd rather get a backbox based on performance and then looks.

I'm probably gonna keep mine standard until the manifold n decats done cos my back bumper even scrapes if the roads slightly uneven with a heavy load. There's no chance of having a box back there for long anyway!

By the way; the sig car isn't the chav polo I was taking about, trying not to make any mistakes with this one

I agree with solidsponge to a point. When you see a chavved up scrote or spaxo, with stupid looking bodykit, meccano spoiler, cheap halfords wheels and shopping list on the door, a big bore exhuast (normally a 4") looks and sounds ridiculous. However, when you have a car that has subtle mods, exterior and to engine, one of the mods is normally a decent exhaust to release a few ponies. Subsequently, by fitting a decent exhaust and normally matched with a filter, you have increased induction and exhaust noise, without it being at all chavvy. Mine is smoothed off, induction kit and cat-back exhaust. My car in no way looks or sounds chavvy. I don't think you can class alot of modified cars as "cheap and nasty" , take for instance some cars off here. Alot of money and time is ploughed into these cars and they are not by any means cheap and nasty.

"Im sorry but although once bore exhausts were good, maybe when people used to put them on their minis. Today they mean only one thing, cheap tat and no matter how great you have done up your car the louder it is the more cheap and tatty it now sounds.
"

Does this mean that I need to take off my large bore exhaust off my 3.5 litre V8 P65b rover because it will be classed as cheap tat, I don't fekkin think so.

it all depends on the car and why I reckon. My car turns heads about 100yards before I get there. Reason being the baffles gone and you get a very low burble like a flat four (not the engine note). However, this only happens if put your foot down after an early gear change. Leaves people wondering wots under the hood

Big bore on a non-tuned standard engine in an old scrapheap --> stupid and dumb

Big bore on a tuned engine (no matter if it's a tuned 1.4 8v or an 3.0 v6, as long as it's a USEFULL big bore, usefull as in the sence that it considerably contributes to the gain in performance of the car's engine) --> beautifull and totally the s**t! 8)
