Parking Fine Help

I am so annoyed just now. Got a parking fine and they are wanting £60 or £30 if paid within 14 days, both of which are riduculous. Basically I went into my usual car park and found it was busy, and my usual space was taken (which is away from other cars). Now my old Fiesta was driven into in a car park and nobody owned up, and my Polo has been scratched by people so I'm very careful about where I park and avoid others if possible. There were a few spaces but they were rediculously tight and why would I risk damaging my car because of another careless waste of space?

So I find a spot against a wall where there would be no obstructions if I parked. Behind me is a roof mounted air vent that comes down, so I parked against that. Next to me was at least a 2 car width between me/the wall and the ticket machine, so no obstructions for cars getting past. The car in the space on the opposite side of the air vent would of had to drive around it anyway. Paid my parking and off I went as I had a lecture to get to. Did see a so-so space around the corner so was about to move the car until someone took it so gave up.

I've drawn a crappy little illustration below:

What angers me is that there is a space on the opposite side which is very similar and right next to the road. Only difference is that it has a line. The space I went in didn't, but then there were no yellow striped lines indicating no parking like in some other areas of the car park.

As some may know I had an accident earlier in the year which cost me pretty much £1500. I still owe my parents £800 at the moment for my car. Keep in mind I'm a 21 year old student who only works part time at B&Q 12 hours a week! Why can't they catch some real criminals instead of robbing innocent people who don't have the money and have already suffered because of other careless drivers.

Any advice would be great, I'm sick of throwing away my hard earned money for nothing

If it's not a marked parking space i don't see how you have any argument, however have a gander on the forum of www.pepipoo.com

If you're parked illegally then you are a criminal

I know, who cares about these people who park on double yellow lines and/or don't pay parking tickets and get away with it

I can see where your coming from, I get the drivers where I work moaning about it daily. I deal with about ten parking fines a day and they do people for being a minute over a 2 hour limit and they have spent money in the shop.

If its not a marked spot though thats where they have got you.

And that's where I'm hopefully gonna get them...it's not marked for no parking like so many other similar parts in the car park. Got heaps of photos of it so about to write my letter

When you do your letter ask them to the the charge on hold so the costs dont increase. If you dont they will keep it increasing until its resolved.

No mark, no park :x

Even if there weren't any road marks, did you check the wall you parked against for no parking or warning signs seeing as there was an air vent beside you?

that does suck my friend but like others have said whether you were obstructing or not (in their eyes) if your not in a marked space your not legally parked. I had a mate who got a ticket for parking on a patch of grass by the side of the road lol

Sent them off a letter with lots of pictures showing areas in the car park that weren't indicated as spaces but people get away with, and areas where there are yellow lines that should of been used if my space wasn't a valid parking space. Worth appealing anyway

Well done mate. Parking tickets are a nightmare, I've been having some fun with a PCN collected whilst working in Camden back in May (in the company car). Waiting to hear back from them re the charge... no news yet and its been ages. They explicitly instructed us to do nothing until contacted by letter by them. So we're not.
