1997 Polo Cuts out

Hi there

I'm facing a problem with my polo, not sure what the acutal root of it is

or the solution.

When i'm driving and sometimes put the clutch down, with the brakes

the reving needle sometimes goes all the way to zero and the car cuts out.

Sometimes, the car saves itself, i hear like a kickback from the rear of

the car and the needle goes up, and then when idle the needel would

move quite irraticly between 8500 and 9500 revs.

I'd welcome any suggestions, cheers for in advance.

Thanks

Your trotthlebody is dead, get it replaced, is a common problem on the mpi-engined mk4's

i think that's 850-950 rpm, not 8500-9500, unless you have a bike engined beasty.

pedant mode off.

Easiest and cheapest thing to do first is have a gander inside and see if it needs cleaning, you will see a build up of black crap inside it. Get some Throttle body or Carb cleaner and a tooth brush/rag and clean it out. That should do the trick. If it doesn't improve, like JarnoVWPolo6N said.

wish I could say the same for mine :(

Still have the problem although its not too bad anymore, still hate having it though. Changed lots of parts and had VW and Big Boys Toys diagnose it with no signs of whats wrong!

I'll bring my laptop with VAG-COM to the next meet if it's of any use?

Hey

I cleaned the throttle body today by spraying it with the Carb Cleaner &

loads and loads of oil came out, there was some oil residue in the air filter

box as well, cleaned that with the Carb cleaner aswell.

the small tube connecting to the air filter I cleaned that aswell.

problem had ceased instantly, and everything running fine.

thanks again :)
