Hey, has any one here fitted one to a 1.4 AEX Engine?? If so do you know if they make much of a diffrence to the sound of the engine? I already have a cat back zause, just wondering if it will make it sound like its got a bit more grunt?

I'm thinking of fitting it too but was wondering the same and power gains. Should produce some bhp right? Not sure about the noise though, think it would a bit.

sound "improves" a little, not too much though, it aint gonna sound like a twin-charged Toyota Supra is runnin' down the street And will give some powergain + increased torque. How much it increases depends on other mod's done to the engine, the combination with a restriction free induction kit is nice, put in a cam, and your up for laughs

thanks Jarno, i'd rather hear a skyline go by though or a hi-spec'd spoon S2000. Music to my ears

Heard a 1.4 AEX Turbo with 133bhp on the wheels again today that's better music, why? It's like a wolf in sheepscloths, nobody will expect a littl ol' Polo mk4 to beat them at the stoplights

Think i'd prefer to immigrate to Holland, you can hook me up with some techy stuff for my car. I can't even have any engine mods co'sv silly figured insurance! Be another 5years before i'l even be allowed.
What engine mods can I do on my AFH 16v to increase power? Are there any parts from other sporty VW's I can pick up to improve it (eg internal parts etc)

Oh come on, use your imagination , you think a 1.6 16v GTI engine is only different because it has 200cc more
Cam's, inletmanifold, throttle, airfilter, injectors, injectorrail, head, exhaustmanifold, all originaal Vdub-parts, with VW-logo on it including partnumber, but all ways to slightly up-grade your engine m8

I gathered that much but don't know anything about mechanics or engine part differences between VWs etc. So your saying I should be able to put engine parts from the mk5 Gti into my AFH lump? Are they direct replacements or is any modding needed to the AFH to get them working in my engine? Example: can I just take a Gti cam and exchange it with mine or is some fettling and modding needed?
Sorry i'm useless at this techy stuff you Holy Jarno speaks of I only got in the Dubbin scene properly just a year ago but nothing learnt about the engine side of modding!

Come on m8, I'm not holy, I'm just a regular human being like you
AFH is 101BHP right? GTI cams are good swap, dunno exactly about the variable timing, but that's on the pulley, so just use your old AFH campulley. exhausmanifold is straight swap, inlet + throttle too, but you will need to get it aligned with the electronics, probably will give some difficulty though since AFH has Magneti Marelli ECU, GTI doesn't I think recalling. Injectors won't be much of a problem, but to be sure, fit an induction kit, then it will never go to rich for the computer to go in "safety mode"
And remember, buying Schrick 250 degree duration cams will of course gain much more then the GTI's, same counts for exhaust manifold. So fitting GTI parts will get you there, but nothing too spectaculair, since you will still be missing those 200cc compared to the GTI engine, you will not outperforme it, unless of course you buy aftermarket brand stuff
(your insurance won't be able to spot some Schricks under the valvecover would they? and how would they be able to measure your fuel pressure? By taking out an injector and looking how far it sprays fuel? GO FOR IT M8! make that AFH the little explosive it VW designed it for )

Never thought about insurance spotting Gti parts Your a real bad influence mate cos now my mouths watering and i'm rubbin my hands together!!! If only my funds were in place One day i'l get it there I hope. Any extra powers better then nothing so I won't mind not out pacing a Gti, although i'd love to get past one. Most people think its an 8v lol

Jarno WTF ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! Seriously, take me under your wing as your apprentice...I want to know more!
Btw, I was wondering, I wanted to get the sound that a dump valve creates on my Polo but I'm obviously not gonna get a turbo swap. Is there a way to get that sound without turbo installs or buying glorified speaker that imitates the sound?

Cheers Jarno, still need a timing belt change before any mods appear
Septic: You can always buy a dump valve immitator thing. Problem is they cost a few £££ too!
Only tsshhh sound you'l get is an induction kit!

Polo's m8, I'm talking about regular polo's hear, the finest VW has ever created, well, apart from the Golf 5 W12-650, or the Golf mk2 1.8 16v G60 Synchro of course
But if you want to genuin blow-off sound, you will need a turbo swap, those whistle thingies and soundsystems for under the hood all sound rubbish, you can seriously hear the difference, it just aint it m8

When installing cams you need to take of your timing belt ==>perfect time to also swap your cams for GTI's or Schricks etc., saves you money

@ septic: just to get your cock on "ready-for-action-mode" --> check out this blow-off sound
It's a mk4 with a AEX 1.4 8v turbo, some more mod's to the engine (stand alone managment, forged pistons, AEE head + inlet etc. etc.) from a m8 of mine, helped with some minor work on building this engine, drives like a maniac and has got over 130BHP on the frontwheels (over twice as much as a standard AEX generates on the crankshaft )
