Im having a problem putting my 1.4cl into 1st gear i no it sounds daft but when im trying to put it in it seams to possibly hit some thing and wont go in. it used to do it very rarly but now its nearly all the time.

Can any body help with why this could be happening or a way to solve it??

hum take ur polo to a Gearbox repair centre m8 and ask them whats up with it, it might need a new first gear putting in.

well it could just be the bearings or sumut little tbh m8.

you might beable to get a cheap repair. Try your local top gear garage. I have just booked mine in for a referb Gearbox which has cost me £320 :(

My 1 litre has always done this gearbox seems to have like a gate on it in my opinion so when dropping into first at junstions it takes a good old shove,

i failed my first driving test because of how stiff first was it loosened up but now its colled again its back to its old ways.

Is that with a new clutch and bearing??, mine's just gone so I am also after a new box now. Why is it so many boxes failing???

Gearboxes are failing cos polos dont like the cold weather hehe they want to spend winter in a warm garage with a toasty Gas burner running :P

This can be due to the selector bush wearing out - thats the issue I have with mine at present. New parts cost about 20-30 quid from your local dealer :)

Might be worth changing the gearbox oil, i know it helps on a lot of other VAG gearboxes. Redline MTL or Redline MT90 are the two of choice, not sure which one you'd need for a polo box.

First off, change the gear box oil and add decent oil to it, Make sure the clutch is adjusted proply! Also make sure you dont try to force it in, if you are still rolling allong the road, slow down more before selecting the gear, put pressure on the gear stick into the gear and slow down untill it slips in.

It will be down to general wear, VAG Gear boxes are the weekest part of any VW, Just ben gental and change oil every now and then and it should last for many miles yet.

Mine does this sometimes, always thought it gets stuck there cos reverse is there too. recently had the gearbox selector changed cos it was leaking oil but that had no effect to gear change issues :(
