Long time no post, been neglecting the old girl recently and havent done anything to her. Got a question for those in the know though.......

Ive got a pipercross induction kit on my car which pretty much makes it roar a tiny bit more from the front and doesnt really give that much of a power increase!! ive noticed that my mpg has gone down but i expected that, more air+more fuel = less mpg.

But i worked out im getting about 24/25mpg..........thats sportscar consumption on a 1.4 16v! is it me or is that really frigging low? question is what can i do to get the mpg back up asides from getting a standard filter put on? any point getting a diagnostic check and getting the ECU sorted out? where do you get that kinda stuff done for not too much money?? would i need to go to a main dealer or can it be done properly elsewhere??

cheers

Sounds a bit low to me. You can get vag-com cables from ebay and download some trial software, but it's a bit of a pain to set up from what ive heard.

have you tried resetting the ecu. I have no idea if this would work, im just suggesting things to try and sound more helpful then i actually am

When was it last serviced?

When i fitted the induction kit i disconnected the battery, left it a minute then reconnected it (a mate told me to do this as it sorts out the ECU for the increased amount of air the car is recieving..........thats right isnt it?).

I'm keeping the car for perhaps another year whilst i save for something more powerful once my 3 years no claims comes through (touch wood), so im not sure if its worth getting the ECU sorted if its going to cost a bomb to run a diagnostics test and see what the hell is going on! but perhaps it would be prudent to get it done before i sell her on to someone else.............

It had a service and MOT about 2 months ago, nothing woz reported to do with the ECU. She runs like a peach, not stuttering or anything like that, couldnt b happier with how she runs apart from she drinks like charles kennedy!!

I know nothing about how ECU's work really, i know its an engine management system but apart from that im clueless!!

cheers

if it's not doing anything for your car..
and making it thirsty..

why not just remove it?

maybe the problem will be sorted.

(i had the same problem and people complained at me :P)

A very valid point sir! you're right of course.........makes me feel like i wasted the £60 or whatever it cost to buy the induction kit, but i guess ill waste more money on petrol unless somethings done about it soon.

Thing is i dont want to buy a stock filter, waste that £60 on the pipercross, and find out its the ECU afterall and i could have kept the induction kit on!!

Perhaps i should just buy a stock filter and fit it and be done with it!! gaaahhh, friggin cars, obliterate all your money!!!
