Hi guys,

Just thought i'd pop my head in and let people know that i'm picking up my 1996 VW Polo 1.4 CL in red on friday evening. It's only 50k miles and although it's slightly faded and has a couple of knocks I really like it. It was up for a grand but I managed to knock him down to £800 with a full tank of fuel.

Interior is really clean, which from others i've seen of this age is hard to find. I'm planning to put the clear front and side indicators on first, then move onto the black smoked rear lights.

Pictures when i've got it and cleaned it up nice and shiny!

Whoops, just checked and i'm in the wrong area of the forum I think!

According to WIKI mine is Mark III

get some pics up when you get it! Wikipedia said my MK5 is a MK4 so dont trust what it says.

it wont be a mk3 on a 96.

Ahh thanks guys, I thought something was odd about it as i've done some research and was confident it was a mark IV

I'll definatly have some pictures up when I get it, as the seller used to be my neighbour and is now my work colleague i've seen it a few times before and I know it's not been thrashed out. It's just had a fuel injecter replaced to fix the misfire and it's all working now. It's been looked after well, but needs some life and shine put back into the paintwork

I'll be off to get some cleaning products then, and head my way over to the detailing section of the forum to get some advice on what to look out for.

I've got a couple of questions that i'll ask because it does have some noises that i'd like to investigate.

yea ur in the right place m8, mines a 97 and i class it as a mk4.
really confusing is the net on the mk number. parts is a nightmare lol I just call it the 6n way easier

now you need to thrash the car, give every 4x4 driver on the road the finger and start to rule ur roads haha

I've started calling it the 6n too now, it's way too confusing. I'm just glad some sites sell parts according to year of the Polo, not the model number!

I tell you now, the car has been a 1 mile a day run around driven by a woman for the last 7 or so years so I bet the engine needs a good clear out

If i was you id get ur polo a nice service ASAP, maybe new Tensioners and timing belt 2, cos you never know

lol i told my m8 to get a good full service with timing belt done as well and he ignored me, lol 2 week later his car packed up. It only had 47k on the clock

Yep it's a bit under the 60k change interval.... but would you trust a 10 year old belt not to snap and make a mess of your valves?

When I bought my mk2 golf last year it only had 22k on it. First job? Yep, new belt.

I'll have to get that checked then as it's due for a service in january anyway. Not long now, just withdrew the cash as I totally forgot about the money side

What section of the forum to do I ask about an issue with the lock on my passenger side door? You can't unlock the car from the outside but you can lock it from the inside Might just be some wire snapped but i've managed to knock £75 off for it which isn't too bad.

I'm really starting to appreciate some of the work that people have done to their polo's, as previously I would just think it was the "Chav" thing to do.

The doorcard is easy enough to take off - then you can do a bit of poking around with the lock.

I'll have a bash at it this weekend. It's probably some metal cord that pulls the lock on has snapped due to rust or age. Thanks anyway though

dude i had an issue with my drivers lock its an easy fix, infact i have the repair kit for ut lock lol cos mine and urs are a bit different i bought it by mistake to fit mine but it obivously didnt.

Ur paddle is probably broken, like a 10 minute fix. U can get the repair kits from ebay or if u want ill send you mine lol ill post some pics of it when im sobber lol

Ahh brilliant. I'll take a look at it tomorrow and if it's the paddle thing i'll give you some cash for the repair kit
