I will be lowering my polo soon and i was just wondering what price it is usually charged to lower a car, some 1 has just offered me £50 to lower it all i have to do is get the springs im thinking of lowering it 30 - 40 mm and no more because i want to sell my car after all and also does loweing a car improve the top end speed atall ?

i fitted the suspension on my car myself its easy,shouldnt take u more than a couple of hrs, depending whether u can get the front unone, u will need an alan key not sure on the size think its 6mm, but no it wont make ya car go any faster, maybe round round abouts and corners due to lower centre of gravity!!! but that all

get it done properly, otherwise you'll just have to end up getting it done properly eventually, and getting things that u think u need done, but u dont really, and make sure you reset the camber otherwise that'll cause you problems, as ive recently found out. and get uprated dampners unless you want a s**t ride

I fitted Venom motorspot shock and spings these set me back just under £200.00 and have transformed the handling characteristics its just like a go cart but the best thing to do is when removing the front shocks using a 23mm deep ring spaner and a allen key, before loosening the nut mark the top mount in line with the engine bay to get the corect camber when refitting. However get the camber and tracking set up at a garage to be sure. You may have to ring round because a soon as your car is modded not every garage will touch it. I went for a 60mm drop with 15" OZ racing F1 cups and as they were new tyres I had the tracking done aswell.

I don't own a MKIV so I'm not if I should be posting here...but I've just recently booked my MKV GTI in for lowering and it is costing me £250 for H&R springs and the labour, plus tracking etc at JBS...basically drive in and drive out. I much prefer to have someone who knows what they are doing rather than do it on the cheap and find out it will cost you more later...plus I don't trust myself!

Thats a bit steep mate its really easy to do yourself. Even if you have a polo mk5 the suspension components are still the same. If you want to lower your car I really suggest you pay a little bit extra and get the matching shock absorbers and the shaft is shorter and the shock will provide much better danping and therefore much better handling.

yeh £250 is very expensive for just springs and labour!!!

i paid £60 to get my springs and shocks fitted,

A lot of places do springs fitted for about £120, so it is good to shop around

Thanks for your comments, about the shocks, I've been told that mine are gas shocks and so are suitable just to have the springs, obviously I would prefer to go for coilovers but my financial situation isn't too great right now.

So the majority think I am paying too much? I definately do not want to fit them myself so are there any places that you can reccommend?
