Hey up,


Just thought i'd post something for you GT owners out there. It's something that has been around for a while, I couldn't find anything on here about it though, and is currently being done by quite a few Fabia vRS owners over on the Briskoda forums.

It's the MAF Cage mod.

Basically the contacts inside the MAF plug on your air intake have been known to be not so good. The mod involves unplugging the MAF and filling the female connector with di-electric grease. This then gives a better electrical connection which inturn gives improvements to engine idle and throttle pick-up due to the ECU receiving less corrupt data from the MAF.


We have two vRS's in the household. One standard apart from a PD160 intake and Green filter and the other has a Dragon box along with the PD160 intake and green filter. There is a noticeable differance to both cars, More so in the Dragon box fitted car as the throttle response seems to be a lot smoother than it was. Idle is a lot smoother on both cars. And for approx £4 for a tube of the grease from Maplins etc.... It's not gonna break the bank.

Apparently VAG are aware of the problem with the MAF plug and so fit Gold connectors to top end VW's and Audi's.

The link to the TDI club post has some pictures to help you out if needed..... I can't remember what page they're on but seem to think they are possibly in pages 5 or 6 onwards.


It is pretty simple though unplug the MAF plug from the side of your air intake pipe grease up the contacts re-connect the plug and disconnect it a few times to make sure the contacts are clean then add a little more of the grease and re-connect and that's it.

I've come to work today in the car and the throttle really does seem a lot smoother.

It really does seem to make an improvement.

Think it's the right time of year to test it and notice the difference too Dave. Keep any moisture that will be around the connector from causing any issues

There's also a fair bit of decent cold air for the MAF to make use of, so any improvements might be magnified currently...

I've ordered some of this stuff, gonna give it a go on Thursday, hopefully it'll sort out my lumpy tick over issue, will report back with results!

it worked. used some contact cleaner as the metal bit looked fairly manky, cleaned it all stuffed it full of the dielectric goo and it seems to idle much better and be a bit smoother. thanks, si

hmm may have to give this a go on the ibiza!
