Hey im jack, im new. i currently own an '02 Fiat Punto 8v. It is unreliable and costing too much to keep fixing, so i am looking to buy a new car in the new year. I have been told polos are very reliable and well made. I've been looking at Mk V polos as im interested with the minimalism of the euro look. Would all you polo drivers reccomend one?

simple answer: yes!

There great little cars and with few subtle mods can look great. Read the sticky thread of common faults and things to look out for, its helpful info to know when out on the prawl for one

had my mkv polo for 5 years now and its never let me down
the only things that have gone wrong with it ironically are the bits i put on it, namely coilovers (which leaked) exhaust (which i scraped a hole in going over a speedbump) and single wiper (which funnily enough stopped working during a flash flood 10 miles from home)

don't ask.....i suppose its a vee-dub thing!

i got a mk5. had it nearly 4 years and only the last year had problems. last december i had the engine and gear box rebuilt and a new clutch. bit after that had a new battery and then recently just had my pedal box replaced as it broke and make the car useless. i believe thats all. i might be selling my car in the near future for a new car but hopefully i wont have n e more probs with my car till i do.

I recommend the Polo, its such a great car!

despite wat i said about the problems i had i would still say the polo is a nice car. they built everything for the driver instead of getting the driver for the car. in other words they made the seating position and height right the curvatur of the seats right so u can sit in them nicely without feeling like your gonna fall of the edge or the edges are digging in the steering wheel is in the right place and so is the headroom unless your tall. its easy to drive and menouvre which is good when u see the chavs in theyre saxos and corsas trying to park and we, with our polos just drive sreaight in amd walk of. despite wat size engine your polo has youll always show up a chave at some point in the week at least......

oh well...... chav chav chav chav chav......... we polo owners dont like them. they drive toy cars and put snow plows on the fronts and off roading wheels on them............ have they no dignity?........... well quite clearly not!!!!!! oh and always 10 year old lexus lights..... get with it!

Is there a need for this? I'm pretty sure a lot of people wouldn't agree with the mods you've done to your car.

Regarding a mk5 polo, you really can't go wrong with a TDI. The economy is amazing and it's relatively quick for what it is as well.

Agreed with maxZ no need for that.

The TDI is a great little car, and with a remap can push over 100bhp with a healthy dollop of torque

1.0Es are super cheap to run - like 50-60 miles to the gallon if you drive it sensibly and do the gears right

what like group change down gears? 5 to 3 to 1?

i find the baby 1.0 a little bit sluggish at times like pulling away in 2nd has never been its strong point!

HAHA! yh i suppose they will be different to my punto i have at the moment, should be gettin a polo in the new year can't wait for a change. whats the insurance like? as i'm a young driver

I don't know how you can cope with a 1.0 to be honest. Don't you find it frustrating? I'm not taking the p*ss here by the way

Most people who buy 1.0's will probably have it as their first car, but you get used to it. When you finally step up, you look back on your times with the humble 1.0, with good memories. They're not that slow, they're nippy little things which are good round town and stuff. They're more than happy to pootle along on the motorway at 80 with ease

Its very frustrating - i just want the acceleration, but i guess through all the body work changes and all that it keeps me content

Agreed with ollie too, they defo arent slow - quicker off the mark than most other cars, but then it all goes downhill haha
