I'm planning on purchasing some more powerful bulbs as a gift for a friend with a 9n Polo.

Does the 9n use H7 bulbs? What are the sidelight bulbs?

Many thanks

I hope that you mean Philips Extremes or something similar and not 100watt rally bulbs!

The bulbs from powerbulbs.co.uk are very good - much brighter as ben (PD) will agree.

These bulbs with this seriously blue coating arent really that fantastic as they provide a light thats is reduced in brightness, and has a rather strange hint of grey/green to it.

Out of interest and for the future as these upgraded bulbs do not last for ever, were you refering to Philips Extremes when you mentioned the horrible blue coating? The ones that I bought for my wife's Polo were from powerbulbs but were an earlier model than Extremes.

I refer to halfords ones, and the lucase rally ones. They basically look like they are painted blue! Phillips xtremes arent really that great - ive had them and wasnt that impressed
