Hi Everyone,

I am sure most of you must have some great ideas to replace the car stereo by yourself!!?? I need some help from you please.. My Alpine CD/ Radio is currently not working at all. I could not able to switch it on. Some one told me that it could be some problems with the head unit. Part of me thinking, if I am able to find exactly the same head unit from ebay, would it be able to work and back to normal??

here is the model of my Alpine CD player; CDM-9803R. If this is not helpful enough, I can upload some photos.

Another solution is replace the whole unit. Is it easy to replace the CD player by ourselves? I am looking for those one that I can plug in my iPod. PLease give me some advices...

Many thanks for your help, people :)

Kind regards,
Samuel

yeah its pretty straightforward to replace, if youve got the keys to take out the player then it whips out in seconds and the wires all just plug in, if you don't its a bit tricky but it can be sort of leavered out with a straight head screwdriver, a million people will probably start shouting about what a stupid and dangerous idea this is but it has always worked for me.

Whats up with the cd player now, is there just no power to it? Did it used to work? do the lds light up or wotever? If you put in a cd will it still suck it in or just nothing? I've got an ipod one, i baught a crap ipod off ebay for a tenner where the battery is broke, but i just leave it in the glove box plugged into the stereo, and you can browse from the ipod direectly from it, the stereo powers the ipod. thats an alpine as well

Thanks, JoeG07. I have managed to take the stereo out of my car 5 mins ago. Do u think all the other stereos should fit my car cable easily. The only thing that I am worry is once I bought a new iPod stereo from ebay then realise it cannot be fitted straight forward as I expected.. So i dont want this gonna happen.

My Alpine stereo was working fine 3 weeks ago. It was always working prefectly. Then it decided to keep playing itself(sometimes when I took my keys off the ignition radio still playing itself) and unable to switch to different radio station or change it into CD mode. This morning, the audio is totally had it, I cannot switch it on at all. It has no lights or what so ever... So I think it is time to replace it.. The weird thing is; my friend told me Alpine always last forever... I have no idea why does it broken. I always take care of it. and never drop it on the floor or anything..

Anyway, if I want to replace it with the iPod stereo, which is the best one to go for. I dont have a grove box cos I have passenger airbag. so I may have to go for those one that I have to plug my iPod on the head unit and play... What do u reckon...

Many thanks

Samuel

no i don't have a glvoebox either, its in the mini one under the steering wheel. Its usually a case of adaptors and plugs so if the one you buy dosnt fit the one in the polo, take it into your local audio place (not halfords) and show them, should be able to sort you out. Mines wired a bit funny, theres always power going to the stereo and u have to manually turn it off because it never goess off, even without the keys lol.

thats a bit odd... lol cos when I took my keys off the ignition, every electric inside my car are all switched off. Well, I am on a hunt for an iPod stereo then.. Dont really want to replace the stereo for like £100 as I am planning to replace my car soon... Well, I have no choice cant really live with a car without radio and CD... In that case, I have to go for the iPod audio instead. I dont see the point buying something mickey mouse... Which one do u recommended?

Cheers,
Samuel
