Quite a strange thing just happened

Hello :)

I tried to start up my MKIV this morning and for the first time ever it wouldn't start. I've had the low temperature gauge problem that a few people seem to have, so I thought something might have gone horribly wrong.

Tried a second time and nothing again, but the speedometer started flicking like mad, like a bad case of parkinsons or something. Took the keys out and ran around for a bit.

Ran back.

Tried the third time and there was a bit of a noise like a bang, but not, it was just something really being forced through. But it started. But then I noticed that the service miles message (I'm planning to book it in after Christmas) had reset to zero!!!!! So I drove about 10 miles and it now says service INSP (or whatever) 10 miles.

Does anyone know what this means? I take it that it's not a common thing?

Lovely forum by the way :D

Had the same problem, mainly due to the cold. Mine started after getting a jump start, although u may need a new battery. Thats they the speedo etc started flickering. INSP miles is what iv got as im sticking mine in for a service tomorrow, just shows how many miles you've done after the recommended inspection daate, i think.

I have had that happen before, the bang is a bit of a backfire in the manifold, its due to the cold. usualy starts the second or third time though .

INSP stands for inspection, should come up every 5,000 miles or so. just like it says OIL every 10,000 miles. just means its time for a service. can be easily switched off.
