Steering

How does everyone find the steering on their GTI's? I've not driven "normal" Mk5s but on the Mk6 and Mk7 the steering is very light with little feel (very good for parking and a relaxing drive but not good for driver appeal). I find on my GTI it's quite heavy for a car with power steering but does give a nice amount of feedback. Only gripe seems to be it gets lighter at high speeds. Evo mag critised the GTI for having rubbish steering but I disagree

i think the car has great steering, its responsive and imo very light!
then again, i compare it to cars that are mostly older than it and either bigger or dont have power steering.

The thing i dont like about it is the steering wheel doesnt go down low enough!

yeah i agree with the heavyness side of things, i really noticed it last week when i had my dads fiesta for a day it just seem to be so light , then i jumped back into the gti and it was like so heavy

Forgot to add I think the steering wheel is total crap. It just feels like a big round bit of cheap hard plastic. Always wanted to fit a Mk5 Golf GTI wheels but there'd probably be fitment issues

I reckon you'd find a mk5 golf gti wheel would feel really wierd - they're a bit bigger, and kind of fit that car being bigger, they're also a fair bit thicker.
I'd say the Polo wheel is the right size for the car, just reckon it could do with some padding behind the leather to make it feel like there is a difference, while still being the same width, then it'd feel more luxurious.
I get u though on the styling, I loved the flat bottom when I had one, and DSG is a must for fast changes with the paddles, but also mine was a Multi-Function wheel which looks the business because its doesn't have silly blanks on the wheel, and because they add a load of functionality all so easily to hand.

The Golf wheel is very nice but I suppose it may feel different in the Polo
