urgent help

i need urgent help to fix my gearbox wot i need is a blown up diagram of the gears in the gearbox as i need to replace the 5th gear assembly and bearing as i have been told by a geabox repairer that it can be done with the box in the car.please email me with any diagrams you have to [email protected] thanks i need to do this on saturday.

Tigz you reckon it's worth getting the gearbox rebuilt if its gonna fail anyway - if keeping the car in the long term?

What do you meen? Before it breaks?
I wouldn't say so.
As soon as it starts to make poor noises then do it to avoid any extra damage.
Bearings and seals are a cheap repair (think its around £100 for the repair kit) but when you start with Diff or gear damage then when the costs rise.

I'm just glad mine hasn't went on the 1000 mile round trip to Polo Show, ahh well there is always next year :lol:

How many miles? They can go at any time but seem to average around the 60k mark

the main damage in this box is the 5th gear bearing so im replacing it along with the 5th gear its self. i have spoken to a few gearbox repairers and it is possible but needs patience and time and the right tools im all set for saturday when i undertake this job.

funny you should say that cause it turned 60k about 2 days ago :( its been doing it a little longer than that, a mate suggested it could be the clutch thrust bearing but im not convinced, im gonna get it looked at after crimbo :(

i wudnt leave it too long as i was told not to use mine and mine started a week ago.

whoops, well tbh theres not alot i can do about it now, i've been taking it steady since hearing the noise so hopefully it'll hold on!

would i be thick if i asked if the 6 speed box off the lupo gti would fit on a polo? was wondering this last night.

My gearbox failed at 46k miles.
