I need answers! this is DRIVING ME MAD!

Hello, Well i have posted on here before about me so called "knocking tappets"
my car has been knocking under load (worse when cold) for a good 10k miles now but its getting worse and worse although it still drives and runs fine!
Now, its an AEX 1.4L engine, I have heard its to do with the Little end, I have heard many hydralic tappets fail and they have ALWAYS tapped on decelleration and all through the rev range, where as this does not knock atall when the engine is spinning down. only when under a load. and when the revs are much higher it goes quieter and quieter.
I need to know if it would/could be the small end of the rod? People have also said Piston slap? but seems odd on an inline engine like the AEX.
PLEASEEEE if ANYONE knows anything about it, let me know! If its the little end, eventualy i will give in and i dont want that to happen!
