Power loss

Hello,
After changing the coolant and brake fluid of my car, along with the alternator belt i thought... now the car is mint! I was wrong.
Today I was driving around in the highway and I heard the car revving up when I put my pedal to the floor but no speed came with that? So I was doing 100 km/h, put the pedal all the way down and the car revved up until 5000 rpm and the only went from 100 to 105km/h!!! Eventually the car builds up speed to 140 km or more.
My first guess is that the clutch is slipping. But i had a new one installed in 2006 and I don't drive that agressively so that i would ruin the clutch!
What other things may be causing this?
Taking a look at the engine, the colectors have a crack. Could that be causing it? ( I dont see how, but its a possibility!)
Happy new year,
Pedro

Did you spill any brake fluid or oil or anything on your clutch? It can drip down onto it and cause it to slip.
could be adjustment mabey? worth a try.

Dunno if its related but my car did similar untill eventually it cut out and fired on just 3 cylinders. i thought it was clutch related to,
Turned out to be my ignition system took it in for a new set of performance HT's distributer and sparkies and got them to clean fuel injectors and throttle body.
Runs like a charm now.
all easy enough to do yourself i just didn't have the time this time of year.

If your engine is climbing up in rev's fast in fifth gear, but you don't gain speed, then it's surely a slipping clutch issue here, beter check it before it's completely worn out

Sounds like clutch slipping to me, too. As suggested above, get it checked out ASAP before it's wrecked completely.

Hey,
Sorry for the late reply.
I do need to change the spark plugs. Everytime I start my car in the cold, the clock resets!!! But did it had the same symptoms?
I've noticed a bit of oil above the clutch, don't know if that is getting inside the clutch plate. I've checked the cable and I think it doesn't need adjustment...
The engine climbs up in revs but I don't gain speed. So it only makes a lot of noise!!!
I must say it does seems clutch slipping, but is it possible? With only 50 000 km done? No racing!!!

Classic Starter motor shorting out internally fault - mine did that at 98,000 miles - the bush in the bell housing was a right pig to replace

I'd say clutch - it might be oil contaminated which would cause it to fail early
I'd also say how certain are you that the mileage is correct 50,000 km is only 30,000 (ish miles) I know my car has not had a clutch and it's done 104,000 miles which is 170,000 kms

The starter motor? I thought it was the sparks. Oh well, another thing on the to do list.
I know the clutch only done 50 000 km because i had it changed at 100 000 at the clock is now at the 149 000 km. But I suspect faulty instalation. Either way, got to get a new one to get the car rolling!
Thanks for the input,
