Hi Guys,

Thought I should sign up and introduce myself as I've just bought my Mother the above vehicle. I'll be sure to make myself known by asking a whole bunch of questions But ask that y'all please bear with me (newbie afterall) and in return I shall be sure to use the SEARCH function on the forum before posting any questions

Although this car will turn a full 3 yrs old in March 2008, and it is my intention to renew the VW Factory Warranty, I am sure I will have some questions around basic service and maintenance of this car as we start to become familiar with it.

I hope, over time, to become a full participant in your Community

As a Newbie I know that we all like to see pictures of Members Cars - so well here is mine:











The car is a 1 owner from new, having covered only 25k miles. It is totally standard but for the following options:

* Both front seats are height adjustable.
* Remote closure alarm (car has two fobs, each with three buttons).

It has had only the one service thus far, that being at 16k miles in Jan 2007 where the brake fluid was also changed. It is on the 'Long Life' service schedule - can't say I'm a fan of these extended service intervals myself - but I will leave be for the time being.

My Mother has a penchant for VWs and wanted a Polo in particular. Best of all, from my POV this cost only £5,800 (private sale) - which I think is a genuine bargain (let me know if I've been had!).

However, thanks to this forum, I will be tackling the Cubby Box MOD on the car - very useful MOD IMHO.

I've done the cubby mod on mine, it's a simple and useful mod. Think it took me about 15 mins, that's including the drive to the dealership! haha.
Clean looking car, nice to see it'll not remain standard for much longer.

I'm not sure how much MOD'ing will happen to the car seeing its supposed to be my Mothers staid run-about Although I am pleased to report that I have just completed the Cubby Box MOD

Just FYI of any Newbies out there, the part # is 6Q0857465C1QB and my Parts Dept. were asking £40 (all inc.). I managed to get them to do it for £30 (all inc.). Now just need to sell my tray on eBay to recoup some of the cost.

While I was at it (see? you guys have already got me going ...) I have changed the pollen and air filters as well. I couldn't help myself

If people don't mind, then I will post a 'How To ... ' contribution on changing the air filter for any Newbies out there.

any 'how to' are helpful.

for the box thing, did the old tray just pop out and then the box fit in place? maybe a how too on that

Welcome mate, you'll find some good help with the search button or if you're stuck just ask! We're a friendly bunch who won't snap at you for asking something....(even if it is a stooopid one )

I was a bit agricultural in my attempt to tease out the tray itself, but you just need a fine head flat blade screw driver (or a butter knife!) and you simply ease the blade head in between the trim of the tray and the dash. Once in just 'pop' the clips that hold the tray in place and if necc. work your way round the edges.

Tray comes out in 2 or 3 seconds. The Cubby Box is a complete unit. You simply 'snap it' into the gap. I found it easy to simply slot in the unit the edge closest to me and then with that in (and lid open) press down at the rear. I guess its all held in place with the clips and you should hear a couple of 'snaps' to verify its in place.

Dash looks so much nicer and more usable! Quite honestly, it takes no more than 20 seconds to swap out and fit.
