BMC induction kit questions

i have a 1.4mpi (mk5 obviously lol) and i am just wondering if anyone has fitted one of these to theirs before, becuase it has an engine cover and i am not sure if this will have to be removed permanently!
Also does the BMC give out a good noise and also increase any performance?

Try using the search function.

Should be quite a lot of relevant information if you search "BMC" in the Mk5 section only.

Thats my car in that thread haris put up.

The BMC is well worth it i had a k+n before and its so much better!

The noise is amazing sounds really good and as for performance, i personally think it does make a difference. In a small car like the 1.4 8v you cant expect miracles but it feels like it pics up better and since fitting mine i can get an extra 10mph out of it!!!

If you are looking at getting it for the 1.4 8v i would seriously look at getting all the bits seperately! the price you have there doesn seem bad but it doesn't sound like the kit comes with anything!

i managed to sort mine out everything in for under Â£100!

You need:
The actual BMC CDA filter unit
Two breather filters

A reducing 90 degree bend from memory i think its 50mm - 70mm but not certain
I got a silicon coupler to connect my hose to the induction kit
and you need jubilee clips!

i would definitely scout around on ebay its definitely worth it!

if you have any more q's just ask away as this is the second induction kit i fitted to my 1.4 8v so i know this area pretty well!

and the existing engine cover is actually the standard airbox and is very easy to remove i removed all the filters off the bottom of mine and then cut it up and replaced it to give a tidier look!

To add. The piping is cold air feed pipe on ebay - its not cheap, but its very very good indeed

On the MPI engines, if you use a breather filter on the pipe closest to the manifold, oil will spew everywhere and youll lose alot!, so you need to remove the one way valve from the airbox and put that on the end of the pipe. Reducing bend is a 50mm-70mm

I got my BMC for Â£7.50 - bargain of the century

Alex is right about that i lost alot of oil from mine! the one in the airbox is one way so only lets air in and no oil out!

hmmm....maybe but ive said before im only an amateur! would probably end up with my engine hanging out of my car somehow

Might only be an amateur but i have found the guides on here VERY useful. You get a lot more pleasure when you DIY something.

And if you do get stuck... post it and there is always someone to help out. If all else fails get a mechanic to sort it.

Your not gonna know how easy it is until you actually try.

search the sale sections on this forum, clubpolo and other alike, BMCs pop up all the time for good prices.

Or, there's somewhere that do the kit new (with all the bits) for around Â£160? i'll try find the link now

yeh everything bar the 1 metre of cold air feed, whcih you can get off eBay for under Â£20,.

looking at it now, i'm not quite so sure if you get the 90 degree bend with it or not.
