Hey guys im new to this so be kind. lol
I brought Bryony's Polo just before christmas and she advised me to join on here as all you guys are very helpful.
Unfortunatly the clutch went last night but im as this is my first vw im not sure if its just the cable or the whole system.
The car will not go in any gear but reverse but it makes a huge crunching noise, making the car undrivable. BUT when the engine is off the car goes into gear perfectly. When i brought the car the clutch wa stiff and creaked when being used but now its loose and no longer creaks.
Any help please guys.
Thanks xx

Hey, welcome to the site. You've got yourself a nice car there, it's a shame it's red though

welcome, best place to be for a gti owner! good choice of car! sounds like its definately the clutch, did you get any slipping before it went? (car juddering and not properly engaging) was the biting point just before you took your foot off the pedal?

welcome to the site! you've got yourself a keeper there
sorry i'm not master on clutches, if it was gloing though i would've thought you could probably tell, (like james said^^) crunching and difficulty selecting gears,
if it was a sudden incident, i'd look at the cable possibly snapping?

Definitely sounds like the clutch to me. Or possibly the clutch cable (a bit cheaper!). Although when my clutch cable snapped in my GTi, I couldn't select
any gears at all when the engine was running.
Welcome to the forums though!

Does this not sound like the pedal box failing??
Creaking noise etc.
??

Aye creaking noise is a common one - exactly whats just happened to mine due to the fact that VW never actually replaced my clutch cable (they just smothered it in grease and told me it was changed). I found this out by seeing the date stamp on the cable was 11/99 lol!
Pedal box has failed and ive got a £300 repair bill to sort it out next week god dammit!!

Hi Kelly! Glad you joined up - these guys are all really nice people and very helpful.
If its the pedal box, vw will replace it for free, the car has had it done once before I had it, but I expect they just replaced it with the same part which could probably break again. Might be worth investigating that as its a free fix!

Bryony....
thanks for the welcome hun.
How come VW will do it for free?? Is it a pain job as will struggle to get the car to the garage in the first place so will try get it done all in 1 day so dont need to leave it there. ha.
You were right.. these guys on here are very helpful.
Hows the Golf doing??
