A very specific question about rear speaker wiring

hi all,

I want to take this in stages so i dont confuse people!!

Now, my car is a 1.2s, so it did not come pre-wired for rear speakers. I am pretty good with car audio though, so I mounted and wired my rear speakers myself (JBLs in the door card - sound fantastic) in about 5mins, using normal speaker wire, and connected it to the rear speaker output on my head unit.

All very simple up to now!

Today i bought a new interior. the rear quarter panels (it is a 3door, so they are not "door cards") have TWO speaker grills. These new rear cards have the normal speaker grill, and ALSO a grill, which behind it, has a tweeter built into the door card. the tweeter has a wire coming off it.

Now my question is, how do volkswagen normally split the rear output to two separate speakers, so that one output, eg Rear Left, can feed both the 13cm main speaker and the tweeter.

I am GUESSING it is in the exact same way they split the front output (anyone with a polo who has ever seen the back of their head unit knows that one output eg Front Left, feeds both the door speaker and the tweeter in the A-pillar).

Clearly, what I want to do is have all 4 rear speakers working, i.e. the 13cm and tweeter on each side. I am sure VW have some kind of plug they use which splits the speaker wire into 2 separate wires which then feed the 2 speakers.

Is anyone aware of how this is done.... anyone have a part number,or a picture,or has anyone who HAS 2 speakers on both sides ever taken off their rear quarter cards and seen the wiring????

All help much appreciated!

just for information's sake, currently, my head unit runs the 4 front speakers (off only 2 outputs ofcourse, as all polos!!), and also runs the 2 rear speakers. Separate to that, I have 6x9s on the back shelf, but these are run through an amp, so forget about them for now!

Cheers, Dr Shah

Its just an inline crossover they wire into split the wires. I think it just branches into two, but if you dont want to use the tweeters, dont and just keep running your speakers at present :)

And yes, the rears have a seperate left and right output normally.
