confused.....boot light is annoying me!

my boot light is starting to really do my head in now, it stays on when you shut the car up and i dont want it to run my battery down so i have to keep disconnecting it but its a bugger when i need to get stuff in my car when ive finished work and i can even see where im going let alone what im squashing in my boot! does anyone know is it just a problem with my wiring???
