Hey Guys,

How are you all???

I'm looking to buy a laptop, ive been on ebay literally all weekend, to no avail...

Basically I want something decent, fairly fast, hard-drive space, DVD...

I don't really mind how much it costs, because I will be selling it again in Sept, I just want something that won't lose much value in those 9 months, (so not something new-that'll lose value, but not something so old its crap, or that may break in 9 months!)

My brother reckons I should get a ibook or a sony, as brands lose less value. But I don't know, I want to use ebay really....unless anyone has any better ideas, and then I would sell again on ebay, hopefully not losing too much.....

Like I said money isnt an issue, but i think the more expensive it is the more likely it will be to lose value as newer things come out?

any ideas?

i've just bought a dell.
try the dell website as you can build your own to the spec you want.

that way things you don't need don't have to be good, and other things you need ie. hd space you can have the best off.

worth a look anyway.

thanks for the reply pip, thing is i don't want a new one, cuz as soon as I touch it it'll lose value.....

true.. ebay is only place i can think off.

but can be a dodgy place for electrical stuff like that.

Look on PC Worlds website Rach, they do refurbed ones on there. Might be worth getting one of them

Going back to dell.....

If you go into their 'small business' section and look at the Vostro range. They're basically regular dell laptops but in black plastic instead of the normal silver/white/whatever and come with less of the useless software - and - they're quite a bit cheaper than the 'home' laptops.

Also they have an outlet section on their website where you can pick up a good deal, but what's listed on there does vary.

Personally I wouldn't trust second-hand laptops from ebay, and found that I could get a better spec for roughly the same money with a Vostro.

Apple laptops are decent; the operating system is very good. I've had an ibook since 2005, and after a logic board, a DC in board and a new battery; it's still going strong. Although that's thanks to the applecare extended warranty.

my advice is:

1) Use Dell to get an idea of what the current prices are, and what to expect
2) Go out to the local big name shops and try and get the same in a sale
3) Don't EVER get a Celeron processor
4) Buy a lower spec laptop and save ££££s rather than the top of the range, these aren't good value and the top of the range will depreciate quicker.
5) Don't be fooled by gimmicks
6) Remember not to be greedy - the medium spec laptops will provide way more power than you'll ever need so long as you keep your computer tidy and junk free, and don't play high end games

hehe I bought one off ebay yesterday, basically got fed up of looking, afterall time is money.

Got a sony vaio £300 120 GB 2.3ghz (that i know ill never need but I'm reselling anyway)

I figured on ebay, its worth what it goes for more or less, if someone bids 300 one day someone else will bid it the next, I just hope it doesnt change tooooo much in 9 months. Ad that I don't break it....
