Air filter

I'm just wondering if anyone has done this and would it increase performance, you know how we have the cover and the pipe which takes in the air to the filter box if i took that off and stuck say a KnN filter there but took out the air filters inside the box would it work for extra performance as i don't want to cut into the box or move it, as it looks quite nice

I wouldn't say it'd improve performance
It would keep the neat look alright, and you wouldn't have to worry about the breather hose and manifold hot air pipe
There's little, if any, performance gain with a full induction kit anyway

so it's basically the same as putting in a full induction kit, the reaosn why i liked the idea is because the orginal pipe is where the coldest spot is, but do you know if it would free up the revs a bit?

With a full blown induction kit you'd only get a deeper burble at full throttle. if you want to keep the box then I suggest you use a replacement panel filter by K&N etc. You won't really increase any performance and if you do it'll only be 1/2bhp or so.

Air cone> Airbox with no panel filter> TB wont work,
Tried it before on my old car, its a bodgy method to be honest, and does nothing to performance or sound.
If you want to keep the box go with what NOZ recommended and get an aftermarket panel filter

what you mean the mainifold hot air pipe? what about it?

It brings hot air into the throttle body from above the exhaust manifold to stop carb icing on cold foggy days.
If you for a proper induction kit you have to do without this, and get an extra filter to put on the crankcase breather. Carb icing isn't a major or common problem, just a nuisance
