Ok first the boot switch screws up because of my leaking rear washer, then my headlamp washers stop working, and as of today my horn has decided to stop working. It's also clicking from the fuse box when I press it

Getting annoying with it, and paranoid. The throttle felt a bit jerkier than normal at low speeds this morning - could be my imagination. So my car will fail its MOT in March on the horn, the washers and possibly my exhaust & front brakes - I just hope I can get some of it sorted

The throttle is always jerky at low speeds and in low gears, it is one of the delights of having an electronic "fly-by-wire" throttle.

The horn will just be that it has gotten damaged either by debris from the road or water ingress, easy fix (swap it for a new one, or one from a scrappie or VW breaker's yard), its located near the front bumper / wheelarch on the front nearside.

I bet the price of your MOT that they won't say anything about failed headlight washers. Feedback from those who have fitted aftermarket HID kits to cars that do not have any from of headlamp washer system would suggest that a lot of testers either don't know, or choose not to know, about the regulations re xenon headlights and headlamp washers.

Its a six-year-old car, of course some things are going to break or wear out! You do love a bit of drama Mouse, I'll give you that

I know, my car is my life so I do like to vent my frustrations when it doesn't behave itself It's its 7th birthday in March, can't believe it. You look at it from the outside and it still looks modern. All Mk3/4 owners will stop have to calling our cars "new"

thats one of the things i love about the GTI, it still looks like it could have come off the production line yesterday.

Rumor has it, if you get the car re-mapped with an aftermarket map, the car will be a hell of a lot smoother!



My horns have both died on me as well...the relay clicks, but nothing happens.....

Im not convinved the horn its self is to blame, time to whip out the multimeter and see where things are going wrong

Mouse, you saying about things happening in threes... we already know that my "lights-on" buzzer has stopped working. Well now there is a rattle from the rear of the car when travelling over bumps and rough roads (suspect the exhaust backbox as its on that side of the car) and last night the bulb behind my heater dials in the lower centre console failed. D'oh!!

It's always just little annoying things that go wrong as well. I just hope I don't have to buy new relays for them all to blow again within a week lol

Yay, my headlamp washers is just a blown fuse. On the bad size, the 2 fuses for the horn are still fine, and after reading 2 older topics on the subject I've found out it's gonna need replacing. I get the feeling the fusing of the washers and the knackered horn must be connected somehow. I hope it isn't an electrical problem. Will soon find out if the fuse for the washers blows again.

I've managed to get the boot switch working, just pulled it out, cleaned it and fine again. I've tried superglueing the hose pipe to its connector. One of the wires has the insulation a bit screwed and a wire exposed but its working fine now. However the door open indicator doesn't work when my driver door is open. Is it meant to?

Wish my horn was working today as some t**t in an Audi wanted to cut into me going across a roundabout

What du mean by this?

The light comes on when the boot/passenger door opens, then off when it closes. It doesn't go on at all for the drivers door

As in the ceiling mounted light?
