As per the title, driving merrily along at lunchtime today and happened to glance up at the windscreen as something had caught my eye, turns out I have collected a crack in the windscreen, up at the top right of the glass area, and about 3 inches long. Hasn't increased in size yet but chances are it will...

So I've done the business and Autoglass are coming to my work on Thursday to replace the windscreen. There goes £60 from my back pocket...

But as the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, I promptly phoned by good friend Minty and ordered up a Lupo GTi satin black rear-view mirror complete with anti-dazzle glass figured I might as well take this opportunity to get it sorted whilst the glass is being replaced!

I did the same Si. Replaced windscreen and mirror at the same time. I thought you already had a black rear view morrior though? Strange.

It will definately increase in size i remember mine started as a very small crack and by the end of the week it made it's way up to almost the top of the screen. £60 that's a lot cheaper than mine was

Its not the full-on wired-in auto-dimming unit, no. Just anti-dazzle, which I guess is either an adaptive coating to the glass or an applied tint of some sort.

About halfway through last year I did actually buy a satin black auto-dimming mirror from a Golf or Bora through eBay, and had all the bits required to get it plugged in and possibly even working! In the end though, I couldn't be bothered

Mine also chracked last week so i rang the insurance company but would be my luck that i dint put windscreen cover on my policy! doh
Had a few prices 2 replace it and fook me its not cheep! There goes my new wheels

I'm thinking of getting a new windscreen.

I have a few large stone chips aquired from motorway driving. It might be 60 quid but count yourself lucky, if your insurance didn't include windscreen cover it would cost you £240!

Not to mention you will have a nice brand new windscreen

mine cost about £110 for a new windscreen and mine didn't have insurance cover

Hmm 240 was the quote I got from Autoglass, however mine does have rain sensing wipers

All sorted yesterday with no fuss at all. I offered to remove the (Lupo GTi aero) front wipers before he got to work but the guy said it was no trouble.

New rear-view mirror is in place too. Pictures soon!

Gotta say, I'm really pleased; since this new glass went in, my aero wipers have not given me any trouble at all with scrubbing or with the occasional hitting the A-pillar on the driver's side. They are working like a charm! Whatever these guys at Autoglass did, they did it well

The black rear view mirror makes a vast visual difference IMO. Once fitted, you realise how much of an eye sore the cream/beige one was.

Before is obviously on the left, after on the right. Domo needs to be put back, he's living in the door pocket at the moment
