A friend of mine has been after a PD160 Intake for a while now and doesnt want to pay the 70 odd quid SEAT are quoting him! Which is fair enough as its a total rip off!

Anyway I came across some one who is selling them at the price above which is a nice saving compared to SEATs price! So thought I would post his details on here:

His name is Simon and his email address is [email protected].

Give him a email sayin u got his email from kenny on polouk.net.

Does he have quite a few?? Will he be keen on shipping it overseas? i.e. New Zealand?

Thanks!

Mercedes did the same thing when they discovered the Sprinter's front mount intercoolers were being used on other vehicles (Golfs mainly). They hiked the price up from ~£90 to 4 times that. Swines!

I think the 'Mum's the word' should be the strategy employed in future ;-) Just send eachother PMs and don't broad cast it

It is proven to benifit the cars preformance. So why not? Am no keen on drillin ma airbox would u not lose some air through the holes as its goin a such a quick rate?

When the parts were more like £25 then fair enough..

But the drilled airbox is just as proven.... its an age old mod on the 1.8T

And it costs nothing to do :-)

Am just wonderin, when the airbox is not drilled the air has only one way to go ( thru the filter etc) but if u start opening it up will it not start escapin thro the holes? The way i think about it is ( And i mite be wrong) if u blow thro a straw with no holes in it ur gonna get out what u blow in, if u start puttin holes in it ur gonna lose air and get a lower flow rate at the end of it??? :?

Thing to remember here Kenny is the turbo sucks through the airbox not blows, so the more air it can get in the better.
SEAT wouldn't go to the trouble of designing a seperate intake for the PD160 if there wasn't a very good reason for it. It's not fitted to the Cupra 1.8t Ibiza so obviously the PD160 TDI needs a LOT of air. I guess that's because of the extra fuelling over the 130 to release the extra power needing extra intake air (bearing in mind a Diesel has no throttle butterfly) to keep the exhaust smoke free.

Tricks I learnt years ago when messing about with old VW GTIs (which had no turbos obviously) was that a long thin intake gave better low end torque and a short fat one gave better top end. VW were also aware of this and gave the later V6 engines a variable intake that switched between the two.
Lots of swirl is desirable in the intake but with modern engines the MAF and it's housing is the weak point. I would think a Cupra R/TT 225 MAF housing would be a good upgrade if you start making lots of holes in your airbox. Just my 2p worth and I'll bend over and get ready for the flaming.....

I'll stick to using the positive pressure caused by the intake at the grille though a 160 Intake rather than drilling holes in the airbox.....

Standard airboxes have been proven to be good enough for big power increases on other cars in the platfrom (Fabia's and Ibiza's)

There's a 320bhp IHI'd 9N3 GTI that still runs the standard airbox. . . Admitedly with a Seat lid to allow use of a bigger MAF to suit the increased airlfow. . . . .

Agreed with the grumpy one ^^^^ :D

But at the end of the day it's your airbox so you can do what you like with it! Bit of experiment from those brave enough is all good experience for the rest of us.
