Anyone know a GOOD and CHEAP dent removal chap around the Northwest ????
I have two small dents that need removing.... on on the driver's front wing and one on the door. No paint damage.
They were already on the car when I bought it.
If I was to polish the car like Jeff and Kenny then they will show up FAR TOO much. So for now the chamoise is enough...lol

How far Northwest?
I can really recommend
www.dentsimpossible.com who are in the Stockport/Manchester area. I can't say they're cheap but their work is excellent.
Josh will back me up on this too.

i know of an excellent guy called gary - dent demons, he is the only paintless dent correction specialist i will let touch my car and he travels to you, he charges £50 for the first pannel and £25 each pannel there after, again not chreap, but his work is second to none
tell him you was recommended to him by jeff who had the blue 206 gti and now has the black polo gti that he has worked on in the entry behind vista road in haydock, im sure he will remember me
07901 825122 is his number
did you decide on that downpipe and cat too J?

Cheers guys... will get the dents sorted soon...
Jeff - downpipe - Hmmm - just trying to finish the rear 256mm vented discs - seems I have to spend more money on them..
Have all parts...bolted up but not quite write....new carrier is not far enough out.... scratching head at moment....
But I can get brakes off in 5 mins now...theyve been off that many times..lol

you need the golf calipers as well as the carriers mate as they are wider

I have the wider carriers but widths not the problem, the carriers dont come far away enough from the hub, by a good few mm.
So as soon as everything is tightened up the disc cannot spin....

ok, yes you have the golf carriers, but you need the calipers too,
they mount to the golf calipers differently to ours, they are spaced accordingly for the wider disk unlike ours, as your saying they foul the disk when tight, this is because there is not enough width clearence
just my 2p worth,

Hi Jeff,
I have the wider calipers, the wider carriers, 256mm vented discs and new pads (which are exactly the same as the polo standard ones)
But still they dont fit.... I can only assume that the carriers are wrong somehow...I'm not 100% sure what they came off as they are secondhand but were thrown in with the new calipers.
Everything looks like it should fit... when its all bolted loosely it still does fit...but upon final tightening.... IT ALL GOES WRONG..
The disc cannot spin... it is caught on the carrier...hard to explain.
Also another ball ache is the shield behind the brakes.... you either have to remove it completely or trim off the lip. Removing it is not so easy as the hub has to come off which means you more than likely knacker the bearings so have to get new bearings....
And it goes on...

As chips away is a franchise the results all come down to who is on the end of the paint gun - or spray can, i'v seen some of them use halfords paint in a can! I use a smart repair company all the time at work who are not too bad but ultimately a smart repair is cheaper than a proper bodyshop repair for a reason. Depends where the repair is and how fussy you are. Like jeff i wouldnt let them anywhere near my car!

Chips away bodged a whole rear bumper on my parents Mazda. It had a small scratch that was meant to be sorted when they bought the car, so they took it to chips away to get it sorted.
The chap spends 2 hours painting it, the job was poor. Wrong paint colour, and it had not been prepared or finished properly. Then he comes back 2 weeks later, more accurate paint colour (but not great) but still looks poor and by this time he has gone from an inch long scratch to respraying the whole bumper.
Ended up botching the whole bumper so it ended up having to be taken to a body shop to be fully resprayed.

This is the very reason I asked the original question...
I used Chips Away once before and I could have done a better job myself..
And I'm not kiddin' - he had to do the painting twice - the first colour was really wrong - the second wasnt much better either.
WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.
I originally called them out to touch up a tiny stone chip on the fuel tank of my GSXR600 - but he couldnt do it - said he couldnt match the paint. The stone chip was 2 or 3 mm in size. I felt sorry for the bloke (silly me) so let him loose on my Fiat Coupe 20V turbo that had a few war wounds.
Needed a few touch ups on the bumber and on the edges of the doors where they had swung on to walls etc.
The doors had slight (really slight) dints on the edges - I said you can straighten those edges and paint ? He says no - I cannot straighten them only paint !!
So I got a hammer and piece of wood - tap tap tap - there you are I said NOW you can paint..
CHIPS AWAY USELESS..... at least the bloke I got was.
