Alrite guys. Just signed up to the forum, hoping for some advice! I have a 2002 polo 1.2 S. The abs light stays on all the time. Took it for a service down the local garage to get him to have a look. After a diagnostic check it seems the "unit" has failed. Could that be the "Pump"???? Anybody know what this might cost to rectify, and if 2nd hand parts are an option?
Cheers Jack

wouldn't have thought it would be the pump mate, do the brakes feel alright ie- no loss of power etc?
the most likely problem is that the sensor has failed, it happens alot with polos, i had 2 sensors fail on my old mk5!
as for cost of a new sensor, iirc it was around £90 fitted but we're talking sorta 4-5 years ago and i'm sure prices have increased since then.

hope that helps mate, oh and welcome to the forum!

I have got the same error code, but i also had 00283 which was the passenger side front ABS speed sensor.

I have replaced the sensor myself as the part was only £15 from GSF but i still have the 01276 code and the light is still on.

This thread reminds me of when I had my Golf VR6. Perpetual ABS problem which, in the end, turned out to be the pump unit itself. The error code that time was something along the lines of 'Pump Out of tolerances' (or something similar) and twas the pump unit itself.

In the end found a place in St Albans that came highly recommended and for about £400 they replaced the entire unit (module and pump). Never any problems and I sold it soon after.

any VR6s suffer this problem I understand, something to do with water ingress over time etc. etc. - so not sure if your car is starting to exhibit this type of problem :(

Reason I post this is that I changed the ABS ring, sensor (twice), had the wiring checked (as best you can) and in the end, twas the pump that had failed.
