First one was auto locking which I've been wanting for quite a while (Ipswich being a dodgy area and all). But theres actually another option to this function which basically unlocks the doors again when you take the key out, which i also opted for!

Second function was the 'beep' option for the alarm which is in two stages. You can either have it beep locking, unlocking or both! I'm now at risk of draining my remote batteries though as I love the sound so much!

Finally, the three blink indicators which the dealer couldn't find! But they've promised to look into it for me.

Just thought i'd let you know it could be done, so don't let dealers tell you otherwise!

And if you are local i can do it with a VAG-COM. I have been told how to do the three flash indication, but i am not too sure if it is available on the Fabia although i've heard it can be done on the new polo.

Did the dealer charge you at all Nelson?

It was the 3rd service and I haven't yet got the bill, perhaps 5 minutes labour? We'll see

Scorpio1's dealer wants £60 for each thing and the steering stiffened so he's lookng at £180 unless a superhero in a red (slightly damaged )Skoda fabia can be arsed to go out into the world and find the info he needs to do the steering.

They reckon that's labour charges (MIN 1 hour)? It's a 2 min job!

That's after the argument with them because they said, 'that's not possible sir', yes it is..!

£60 is just plain stupid. I went through with the technician on the handheld 50-52 machine what I did/didn't want on the car. It took no more than five minutes

Having VAG-COM must be great rooboy, I could have hours of fun with that programme!

it would be if i diddn't break the alarm with it last week! It goes in tomorrow to have it sorted out.

What is and how does the auto locking work? Also with the alarm was yours factory fitted or fitted at the dealers? If mine was fitted at the dealers (TOAD alarm) surely i can't have the beeps changed?

The cars ecu can calculate the cars speed in km/h (If you ever own VW climatronic AC you can read it though this don't ask why)(You can also see it in VAG-COM as well as the amount of torque produced at each cylinder).
When the auto locking is activated, a signal is sent to the locking system when the cars speed reaches 10 km/h (about 8 mph). this stops anyone from opening the doors unless you unlock them youself. The doors (or if drivers door only is activated just the drivers door) wilkl unlock as soon as the ecu loses the ignition live feed (i.e when you take the key out of the ignition).

The alarm is the std VW alarm fitted to many of their cars and also runs through the ECU (as does the indicators allowing for the 3 flash command). This allows you to turn on and off the beeps for lock/unlock which can be done with any car that can have the auto lock feature.
The Std vw fitment alarm has four different tones that can be used.

I wonder if it's possible to hear the different beeps somewhere on the net or on the vag-com website?

Once i get the alarm fixed tomorrow (with any luck) i'll set the car alarm off and record each sound.

I'm going to try to see everything that can be done (at least on a fabia) as the ECUs are the same for the joint engines.

what is the vag-com website, and how did u get hold of the software. oh and how long does it take to set the tone feature

Vag-com is designed by roos-tech but all websites below come with a copy of the program which is 1mb in size

official vagcom website is www.ross-tech

www.obdtool.com is cheaper to buy and then regester the shareware version (this is what i used).

there is a uk website www.vag-com.co.uk but it is cheaper to import either one of the first two by a large margin.

Ideally you need a serial port equipped laptop although the two official websites offer (more expensive) usb versions.

If you have a serial port in your laptop, use the obdtool website for the best value (under £100 including the regestration fee).

The official website allow free activation from the shareware versions, whereas obdtool does not (you have to go to the ross tech website and pay $100 to activate).

To be able to do anything apart from look at some of the settings and fault codes, you need to register the software.



once it is al active it will only take a minute. (I set the auto lock and door lock/unlock tone quicker than it took for the laptop to load up)
