I was just wondering how much a good conditioned g40 would cost i was thinking of spending about 1 to 2 thousand could i get one for this price standard. Or do they go any cheaper. I have had a insurance quote for 1300 when i am 19 with pass plus, so i am thinking of buying one.

the cheapest complete G40's I've seen are £1500 and ones below £2000 are probably best kept clear of unless they have some service history (especially charger rebuilds). As these cars are all getting old, may of them are rusty too, so finding a good one isnt going to be easy, as there are loads of people out there after good ones.

GT's in good condition with history are going for in excess off £1000, so finding a G40 for that kinda money is going to be nearly impossible. a complete engine is virtually worth that for a transplant into another car

You could get a very good one for £1500 - £2000, but you'd have to be prepared to wait a long time and to travel for the right car. I'd say £2500 would buy you a good one - any more and the car would have to be extra special to make it worth the money.

In the summer I paid £900 for a G40, it was cheap as the chassis was bent so it was a write-off. It did have full VAG s/h etc. though. If you know of a scrap car for that money (assuming the right bits are intact) it can work out cheaper to buy a mint 1.0 litre Mk3 and do a transplant. I fully intend to get a mint 1.0 or 1.3 litre at some stage, as I reckon swapping the engine into that will be cheaper than respraying the current shell my G40's in.
