I've been reading Detailing World for quiet some time now. Having recently acquired my G220 polisher - giving it a first go on the Touareg. It was already wearing a layer on Collinite 915 (clayed/waxed in October)

The paint was pretty poor due to poor dealer preparation with swrils every where.












Wash & Dry
SSF Pre-Soak & Rinse
SSF Soak & Worked with mitts
Dry using a leather shammy







Clayed with Meguairs clay & Last Touch
Taped up





Polished using Menzerna 85RD Final Finish on SFX 2
Glazed using Clearkote Red Moose on SFX 3
Waxed using Collinite 915 wax on Sonus Blue Perl X 2 layers hours apart

Arches washed with SSF using a soft sponge, CG Wheel guard on the wheels. Dressed using Meguiars dressing on tyres, arches etc and exhausts cleaned with NXT metal polish

Thanks for taking kindly to it. To be honest I didn't count how long it took. I' imagine somewhere in between 8/9 hours if not a little more.

But I've removed pretty much all the defects - some serious elbow grease

Thats alot of hours!! Your someone who seems to know his stuff about detailing.

At the moment I'm someone who's at a stage where I'm washing my car with just AG shampoo and the two bucket method. (with the occasional AG water wax aferwards)

Now the weathers getting nicer, I want to get into a better regime.

I've done my research and i'm planning on upgrading my regular once a week wash to:

AG shampoo (two bucket method), with some AG resin polish shine, and a few plastic trim and tyre care products where necessary.

Then a monthly wax, using something like collinite no. 915

And then a clay like twice a year?

I don't have a tremdous amount of time to be doing this kind of thing, and I'm certainly no professional. But over the summer months I do like to dedicate a morning a week to get it done, (more where necessary for example when waxing)

Would you say what I've described above is a good method, and is ther anything else you would suggest i do/use?

monthly wax i'm sure the collinite stuff is much more durable and will last about 3months

Hey Tim. Sorry for the delay in replying. Your new regime sounds good, like has already been said you do not need to wax it monthly - though there is no harm in doing so.

Wash, Clay, AG Super Resin, AG Extra Gloss protection and Collinite 476 or 915 will go a long way. For regular washing get yourself a decent drying towel. Every 3+months clay/wax.

Why not try something else other than AG products.

If I was you I would get Chemical Guys Wash or Duragloss for wash and Cleakote bits for polishing.

Yeh I have a microfibre wash mitt and waffle drying towels.

does the frequency of waxing depend on how often you wash the car?

if you wash once a week do you need to wax more because it removes the wax?

at the moment I clean the car once a week and wax when I can be bothered. I've clayed it once. All with Meguires (sp?) stuff - not the best but good enough for me at the moment.

No. Actually the more often you wash it the less often you'll feel the need to wax.

Reason being you wont be letting all the contaminants bond to your car's surface. Pre-soaking helps a great deal by making it easier to get the grime off the car but it also helps reduce the chances of marring/swiriling when washing.

But the strength of your wash product will affect how long the wax goes.

Meguiars stuff isn't half as bad, but then not as good as their detailing (professional) range. I've heard that Sonus clay or poly clay are better.

Wow that looks useful. Is that what you've used to clean the polo there?

I have myself an Autobrite Heavy Duty foam lance that connects to my jet wash.

For value for pennies the one CYC are selling is good (great price in any case).
