I've tried looking everywhere on here and club polo but not really found a definite answer.

If I get some 15" wheels with 195/50/15 tyres on, will these fit on a 6n that hasn't been lowered without rubbing?

I read in the faq that you really need 195/45's, but not many of the wheel/tyre packages come with these.

If it has to be 45's then fair enough, I just wanted a definite answer!

mate you could put some 15" wheels on with a profile of a 100 and it still wouldn't rub because polo's come ridiculously high as standard so you should be alright with the 195/50/15, and also people normally tend to go for the 45's because then you get a bit more clearance and can lower it abit more

even length way there is still alot of arch gap, your best bet would just be to get them 15's wrapped in some 195/45/15 and preferably some coilovers because then you can adjust the ride height at what ever you think looks good

No, 195/50/15s are as good as standard rims. You won't have any issues at all. Arch is big enough to cope when its at standard ride height.

Nice one guys! Don't knwo if/when i'll be going down the lowering route, but I do agree it looks loads better.

I've got to ask though, if 195/50's are ok, why does the official mk4 FAQ on this site say that you should really use 195/45's? It gives the impression that 50's will rub. If the FAQ's wrong, then fair enough! It's just that it seemed a bit vague, hence why I started this thread!

provided the offset isn't hugely different to std wheels they chouldn't rub on a car that isn't lowered or just has a small drop.....

The only big affect going to 195/50 15's as opposed to 195/45 15 is that your speedo will be out

The 50 is a Percentage of the width

So 97.5mm is the profile on a 195/50

verses 87.75mm which would be the profile on a 195/45 tyre

Look at a tyre sizing comparison site and it will tell you the percentage that it will throw your speedo out verses the correct size tyre.....

the speedo is taken from the gearbox mate, so it wont be out

Didn't know that! This was another one of my worries, so thanks for clearing that up.

the speedo is affected by the size of the tyres compared to the standard ones google tyre calculator to work it out

Yeah just spoke to my dad about it, looks like Jackdcruz was wrong!

The speedo will be out, just a matter of how much.

Absolutely spot on

- tyres sizes can have a huge effecton on gearing and speedo accuracy

thing is guys you will find out that you clock is not as accurate as u think
allmost all of the time the speedo say your going faster than your are
i used to go past the local speed check ting at what my speedo said was 60 spot on and with 17" wheels wil 40s on the speed check said 58 these speed check signs are the most accurate way of telling speed as they are just as accurate as a speed gun

Correct - however the issue with over sizing tyres is that the car will travel further in every revolution of the wheel - the speedo is driven from the gearbox so it is "calibrated" to run with std size tyres.

Most speedometers overstate you actual speed by a small percentage and this error increases the faster you go - thats a safety margin I'd rather have.....

Anyone know how accurate Sat Nav's are at calculating your speed? Mine always says i'm going slower than my speedo says, by about 3-4mph. I always thought it was the sat nav that was out, but maybe it's more accurate than my actual speedo!
