Hey guys.

I've had a small knocking when driving my gti for a month or so now...it gets faster as i accelerate then goes away.

Last night it was a lot louder. Is it my drive shafts or something else?? it seems to be coming from the front of the car...passenger side i think. Anything i can do to test it?

I've had the discs and pads replaced up front so its surely not them.

Jack the front up on axle stands and spin the wheel while out of gear and by hand to see if you are able to hear the noise

Is it a deffinate nocking sound or a vibration?

As said, jack up the car and have a good poke around...see if you can find where its comming from...

Yeah i'll investigate this.

It sould either be described as knocking or clicking...prob more a click..

If its a clicking its most likley to be something rotating...

Are you sure you didnt bend the metal shields around the front disks? Its quite easy to bend them so they catch on the disks....just pull them back out a bit...

The discs were fitted by a garage...I'll check that out.

Been told to check the wheels bolts are all nice and tight aswell.

Haha...yes...the wheel bolts, and the bolts (allen bolts) that hold the callipers on....Its all to easy to forget to do stuff up if its not your car..

are you sure its from that side, is your car lowered ? I say that because mine is lowered and I had a plastic cover for wiring rubbing on the driveshaft and it drove me mad, check the drive shafts,

always a good idea to check the wheel bolts if anyone else had had them off! when i picked up my mk2 golf gti, the guy i bought it off had fitted the ats cups that came with the sale. got a mile down the road and noticed a worsening and worrying knocking noise. pulled over asap; none of the wheel bolts were tight, but on the n/s front wheel, 1 wheel bolt had dissapeared and the other 3 had unwound themselves by about 1cm! good job i was going in a straight line, had the window down and stereo off!

had to make it home with 3 nuts (on that wheel)

The noise vanished on its own :o

I had a mysterious knocking that kept coming and going and the movement was from side to side in the end it turned out to be the front lower wishbone bush. £1.49 from local motor factor. Problem sorted!

Well its back again.

Someone suggested engine mount to me today. How much would that set me back if it is?

engine mount seems a bit extreme would take alot to disturb the engine off the mount or vice versa have you checked all your brackets by chance my old car used to make like weird static knocking noise really strange to discribe turned out to be brake hose brackets and exhaust middle bracket knocking just a thought to get it jacked up and check all the brackets :)
